Re: Looking for a rod recommendation (shakey head, weightless worms, jerkbaits)

For the shakey and weightless worm, the NRX 893 is king in my hand. 12# FC ideal but it will protect 10#. the jerkbait though is something I throw on a 6'3 to 6'6 rod more so for retrieve. I could live with the 893 but not sure the length would ever suite me on the jerkbait. Before the 893, I was a ...

Re: Metanium worth the extra cost?

Thanks everyone, I’m pretty set on grabbing a met mgl to try for myself and compare first hand the chronarch mgl and the met mgl. I believe I’ll throw it on my glx 894c. I’m also in the market for an nrx or glx 893 which I might pair it with the met and leave the 894 with the chronarch to test. sou...

Re: Still in love with my 803!

Anyways got the 803 in and the 50 conquest goes great with it. I’m on the water tomorrow hopefully Give us an updated and confirm if it is the new model you are fishing. The old model 803 was stout enough that I could pitch with it in moderate cover. Only reason I sold mine to Z is I found somethin...

Re: Metanium worth the extra cost?

Taking nothing away from the Bantam which I've not fished. Many years ago (like 2007) I found that metanium based reels provided me better feel for bottom bouncing. I discovered this owning the old chronarch MG50 then getting the alum Curado 100D when it came out. I ended up getting many MG50's for ...

Re: Still in love with my 803!

man, your kistler reviews and stuff ive read in the past makes me really want to get one. please dont tell me they have something similar to the xpeditor service. I've not had to test a warranty claim. I've only broken like 3 rods in the last 20 years so I am easy on equipment. The good news is the...

Re: Still in love with my 803!

and guys, if you like the old 803glx and want something more powerful the 2017 era Kistler Zbone 7'3H exfast is to me the 803 longer, stronger and just as silly fast.

Re: Still in love with my 803!

so Z has my old 803 as a "spare". Just outstanding rod. I still have a BSR852 spinning as I never found a spinning rod I liked better. The 803 is so good with 14# FC line around "normal cover". My belief is the new GLX 803 is more moderate like the NRX 803 I used to have. Though the NRX was a tad sl...

Re: Line recommendations

fished mostly mono and then FC in relatively clear KY lakes for years. Had 50# braid on one rig and no confidence. Fishing 30# braid in Florida now for about 10 years I have transferred it to my KY lakes with no impact. My theory- I can't see the crap (downside of light braid) and I don't think fish...

Re: Metanium worth the extra cost?

I tend to agree with you. Unless you think you might convert the majority to Shimano. I like the consistency in maintenance. Like this company called Reelex- Dan specializes in Shimano so I sent him all 6 of mine. made it simple

you talking about Dan? I had him work on my 13's and 16s recently and I liked the result and the speed.

Re: Metanium worth the extra cost?

by the way to original post- I only own the old Chronarch CI4. I prefer it for moving baits and frogs to my Mets. Mets shine to me on bottom bouncing.

Re: Metanium worth the extra cost?

original Alum

my best guess is I can break teeth and apparently bent the spool using straight braid. I keep drag relatively light but I know I sometimes snap 30# line on the hookset regardless.
