Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

The star drag looks pretty good, wish they had them for the alphas/pixy platform. I believe they are compatable. The Alphas SV and Air are listed and the T3s is listed as well. My Alpahs SV drag star (hate that ugly thing) and T3 ballistic drag stars are interchangeable so I can't imagine this carb...

This thing ate a Flappin Hog on shakey head as it made its way back to the boat.

Righty using right handed reels. Can't make sustained small circles with the left hand.

Re: Anyone tried DIY spools? $29-$40 BFS spools!

The spools are awesome but the DIY reel parts are no joke either. I love my DIY spools, handles and knob caps but there's more out there: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/group/DIY-Reel-Parts/1089104_253957392/1.html About the handles, I just mounted two DIY handles to some Alphas and I'm super impre...

Re: Daiwa Tatula 610 Medium

Man, this setup is killer for launching, and I mean launching those 3/8 oz Keitech footballs with a 2.8" fat trailer. You can feel bottom structure and strikes from wayyyy out there and set that hook no problem. Awesome, awesome, awesome. That weight is right at the edge of the upper end of its cas...

Re: Rods/reels on a yak

You should be fine. If you value your gear and wish to keep it away from harm then I can't imagine you ramming into trees or stomping all over your gear getting into and out of the thing. I lay up to 3 rods on the floor of the yak, reel seats down, with the rod handles stuffed under the seat.

Re: Favorite finesse jigs

Lol, the monkey always wins that battle. Where so you think all my reels come from? Jigs should not be left to die in a box dry rotting away like some sort of collectible. Jigs die in battle.

Re: Diawa reel opinions

What about a ip79 red clutch? Found them on sale for 350. I always loved the looks of this reel but usually it is so expensive. I love my IP68 but it has a similar breaking profile to the SS SV. Tons of control at low speed to pitch and skip but casting distance is crummy at best. This is odd consi...

Re: Favorite finesse jigs

What you linked to is not what I would call a finesse jig. To me that's a normal jig in a normal size. I use 3/8 oz Buckeye Mini Mops with the skirt trimmed down fairly frequently. If you're looking for something different, like jigs from another bass fishing market in a a different country, take a ...

Re: Diawa reel opinions

Is a alphas sv the same as a sv 105? Also I seen the SS sv 103 on sale at tw but they only had low ratios in left hand Yes. The Alphas SV is known as the SV105 to the uninitiated. The SS SV is a lightweight, buttery smooth reel with an odd spool. The SV spool in that reel has a tuned inductor/break...

Re: Need some help starting out BFS.

$100 BFS rod? That's a tall order. I'd look at the Majorcraft Benkei BFS BIC-652UL. Perfect light tip to powerful backbone BFS rod taper but shipping costs could be a deal breaker. Hopefully going 2 piece will keep the shipping down. The low limit for the rod is absurd as are most Majorcraft rods. E...

Re: Diawa reel opinions

Alphas are awesome and the Alphas SV works well with small t-rigs and wacky senkos. The reel is a finesse and skipping machine but not something I care to bomb a 1/2 ounce with due to the shallow spool. I doubt you'll be disappointed in the Alphas SV, the reel is just plain awesome.

Re: IP68 vs SV103

The IP68 is a great reel but I've found the casting distance to be very poor. I've heard it has stronger magnets fitted to it to increase control but I have not been able to confirm this. The reel pitches extremely well and with great distance but as soon as you do a bomb cast the distance is cut sh...
