Re: Is Daiwa becoming a Tatula???

To the poster who complained of roughness in his Zillion SV TW's retrieve, was it that way or smooth when purchased? Mine doesn't have many hours on it, but provides a very smooth retrieve. I hope it isn't doomed to swift degradation. The TWS Zillions are not as smooth and refined as the old TD Zil...

Re: What's the best all around baitcaster??

I found my last gen Tatula SV capacity challenged and over braked for bombing frogs. It didn't hold a lot of 65# braid yet had to be cast really hard to spool it of that braid. The low capacity and strong breaking profile are great for skipping and light weight baits but I prefer a reel with more ca...

Re: What's the best all around baitcaster??

The Curado DC is going to be skewed towards heavier baits and the Tatula SV towards lighter baits with a lot of overlap in between. They exist and opposite ends of the spectrum. What types of baits do you fish or plan on fishing? This will help to point you in the right direction.

Re: Refreshed 13 concept reels

Plastic frames though. They call it "cast carbon". Translation: injection molded plastic with some carbon/graphite power mixed in. Or if you like, graphite frame reels. The reels are significantly heavier overall so the frames must add weight. Concept A is 7.4 Ounces now, used to be 6.6ish. The new...

Re: Is Daiwa becoming a Tatula???

Isn't both new Steez considered an upgrade over the last gen? I'm not a big of the old gen Steez. Somehow I ended up with 4 of them (IS73, SS SV103, SS SV105 Steez TLD) and I like my Alphas better of which I also have 4 (Alsphas SV, Alphas SV, Zonda Roso, Aphas Ito). I only own the 4 Steez for the 3...

Re: Cast Control Unlike Any Other: 13 Fishing Launches the Innovative Z SLIDE Baitcaster

How is this different from the dual braking that is found on most reels? Usually the linear mag portion is on the same side as the centrifugal. Moving it to the handle side just strikes me as a gimmick. At least it is different. This was one of my first impressions as well, in addition to getting l...

Re: Zander's first Pixzilla (light)

Zander and I must have similar tastes in reels. :big grin:
I am planning on putting those same knobs on mine one I find them.

Re: Cast Control Unlike Any Other: 13 Fishing Launches the Innovative Z SLIDE Baitcaster

I fail to see how making the reel out of plastic is going to be an improvement in durability over the previous gen.

Re: Cast Control Unlike Any Other: 13 Fishing Launches the Innovative Z SLIDE Baitcaster

Ah I see. A plastic dual brake reel from 13 fishing with their own twist. I wish there were ratings to these high carbon content plastics. I think Zaion is great of drag stars but makes for a loud and unrefined fishing reel when it is used as frame material. Is Zaion still near the top in terms of r...

Re: Is Daiwa becoming a Tatula???

The going rate for used SV103s is insane if you can even find them for sale. I wish I would have picked one up when I could have gotten them new.

Re: Is Daiwa becoming a Tatula???

Yes, it does seem so. I would have liked to see the Alphas platform continue as 33mm instead of going CT then Stream Custom, but I just like Alphas. As a long time opponent of the T-wing due to reel size and the perception of minimal gains in exchange for said size, I am extremely happy with the Ta...

Re: Is Daiwa becoming a Tatula???

I don't know exactly whats is the problem over the matter. Shimano is becoming plastic, low-quality, overpriced, and usually there is little complaining. Even use the same frames for more than two decades daiwa is able to consistently deliver lighter medium sized reels and several improvements over...
