Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos

Both. The L is better than ML for my style of trout fishing, but both have a too fast action. I agree. They're definitely not panfish rods. I think they're accurately rated, though. I don't know about the UL Volkey, but the MS-X UL still isn't something you'd want for panfish, even though it will c...

80mm handles have their advantages. You can reel faster, for one. I like them for finesse stuff.

Re: Christmas Gluttony

I've eyed those rods before and they look sweet. This is the top dog in the Majocraft bass casting lineup, correct? Decent price to boot! They are the high end of the Major Craft bass line-up. The build quality is excellent but the lure ratings are off. They fish a little heavier than advertised. I...

Definitely wouldn't hurt. I'm planning on a set for my Alphas ASC. I'm getting the ceramics, though.

Re: Daiwa Zillion Rods

Yeah, they're discontinued. I'd say the blanks are the same, but the guides, grips, and reel seats are better and they're a little lighter, plus they had a lifetime warranty, better quality control (even though that was far from lacking in the Tatulas. Still, I saw a slightly bent blank or crooked g...

Re: Best rod....

Moving or bottom contact? You may be able to find a first gen Tat 6101MXB. That would be my suggestion for single hook baits in that range. If those are too scarce I'd look for a 2nd gen M/F-XF stick. Or this. People seem to like these and there's a 701MFB: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_Tatu...

Re: Finding a "Light" BFS rod???

I think the problem is that nylon absorbs water and swells, which can damage the spool. Everyone with an opinion on here has told me that braid is fine. I presume fluoro is fine because it doesn't absorb water. The lighter you go, the more stretch goes into the line, but people say even 2# won't hur...

While it's almost a toss-up, I second this. Both great reels, though.

Re: Finding a "Light" BFS rod???

As far as fixing the inductor, I would think you'd be better off only extending it maybe 3/4 of the way. That way the edge won't rub and it will make your reel a little more versatile. I think you could do it without some kind of spacer on the outside of the spool shaft if you use a quick setting ad...

Re: Most sensitive JDM rod for crappie?

Is this the panfish series or the legend panfish series? The legend series are about $370 and are a new series. Which web sites do you recommend I check out to source these rods? Thanks! Ah. No, I have the older $120 models. I'm sure the LE version is killer. Plus, if you go that route you get a gr...

Re: What's REALLY next for Daiwa

Hmmm. Would be nice if spacers are used AND they fit other Daiwas for further spool options. Well the millionaire is a 34mm spool so the spacers should fit all current steez reels, tdz, t3 etc You are making me a little excited here... Watch, the handle side spacer is 33 down to 30mm and won't work...

Re: Looking for a rod recommendation (shakey head, weightless worms, jerkbaits)

I say Major Craft MSX 65ML/Reg Fast it's rated 3/16-1/2, 8-14#. Awesome for all the techniques you've listed. They're still available, but becoming scarce. Check Shimreels and JDM Tackle Heaven.

There's also a 6'9 ML bfs version, but I've never fished it and it's only rated to 3/8.

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos

John G, I do a lot of trout fishing where I cast spinners upstream. I fish gin clear water and usually see the trout strike (standard fish is around 20 inches and easy to see). I have used my Major Craft Volkeys and the G Loomis CR721 on several occasions and I have seen a very clear pattern for my...

Re: Did Kuying just copy Major Craft's Troutino Stream rod?

Wouldn't surprise me. Everything from the land of Kuying is built using the I.P. of legitimate companies like Major Craft and Daiwa. Not to knock anyone for buying Kuying, Tsurinoya, Ray's Studio, and others, but that's why I avoid them and the litany of other rip off products that come from China.

Re: Need some info

Hmmm... T3 Air is all that comes to mind. You can always get an aftermarket spool for a Steez TW, zillion SV, or T3 1016. The latter can sometimes be found used and are relatively inexpensive.
