Re: "Borrowed" ideas

Wait... you just said you liked Shimano BC Reels.. you're very contradictory. Which is it? will you move on or wont you... btw... why would you need to look up Ebay prices on a reel you have and purchased yourself, to not know the price... that sure seems like you're trolling to me. You a...

Re: Six To Ten

I have young kids I want to keep away from them so I added hooks from home depot to the ceiling in the garage starting on one side over the boat and have them hanging horizontally just under the ceiling on hooks. They stay safe, kids can't get to them and I can keep expanding the hooks right on acro...

Re: "Borrowed" ideas

Adding a bearing above the location we use really doesn't do much to make the reel smoother, or more durable. On that point I can agree. It is my understanding the added bearing has more to do with rotor stability and to prevent rotor wobble, and nothing to do with smoother or more durable, but ove...

Re: "Borrowed" ideas

Yep! And so do some Abu reels made in Korea and pflueger president reels made in China. So I wonder why shimano has not caught up yet? Makes no sense to me if it were all about building a superior machine, but if they don't improve upon their design in decades and even today still sell high end reel...

Re: most silent braided line

The most silent braid I have ever used is SpiderWire EZ braid. They covered the braid line inside a coating that makes it as silent as mono or fluoro. Looking at it from the outside you would not even know it is braid. I have only used it on BC reels and would not use it on spinning reels because to...

Re: "Borrowed" ideas

In your case with the Stradic that is still hard to turn, there may be another issue. Simply changing a bushing to a bearing will require a change to the shims to adjust the gear contact pattern. They are very different dimensions and will always need to be adjusted. I suggest sending the reel in s...

Re: "Borrowed" ideas

This first image is of a brand new Shimano stradic ST3000FI. Notice there is only one ball bearing for the spinning rotor on a reel costing close to $400.00! This is what shimano describes as "better"! http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e214/Cagey1/REELS/ShimanoStradicST3000FIbearinglack_zps8c78c54d....

Re: "Borrowed" ideas

Brass bushings and sleeves have been known and coveted in SW reels for years for their simplicity and overall durability. This said, this design is not as smooth as "modern bearings". There is a reason why a reel like the SS Tournament Daiwas and original CTs...both with what, three bearings, conti...

Re: "Borrowed" ideas

My point remains valid. I personally do NOT spend any money on handles with bearings. Not an issue for me. But, I do agree bearings can make it spin more freely. That is never in question, so you bringing this old comment up is irrelevant to this discussion of whether or not a bearing is for improve...

A smart angler knows that bearings counts in todays reels are often just for marketing and "we've got more" weiner measuring contests... Re: GIANT but not a bass.....lol 2010

While this can be a truism, I wager that if the majority of experienced bass anglers hook into a 28lb grass carp, and had it on for over a few minutes of fight, they would likely realize it wasn't a bass. My perspective anyway. And I totally agree with you on this point, but that is not how the sto...

Re: "Borrowed" ideas

On a reel that's designed under the assumption that most users will do very little maintenance, bearings are going to fail long before bushings. A high bearing count is in no way an indication of quality, just an indication that they're trying to capture an uneducated anglers eye. Bearing counts ar...
