Re: Core50Mg 7 questions

To me the only thing the Core has going for it is the weight. A new curado 70 will outperform a stock Core easily and hang right with a super tuned 50, 70 will have more power as well. I can agree that the 70 can cast further, but that’s where the comparison stops. I’m currently using both, and the...

Re: Core50Mg 7 questions

Those Core 50s are great reels. Aluminum main, brass pinion with available 7.7:1 brass main/pinion from the Brenious and 6.3?:1 brass from the Curado 50e. The aluminum gears are very solid and smooth, and haven’t ever had any issues out of them like the newer gears seem to have. I’ve got the 7.7:1 b...

Re: keitech 2.8 rigging

How about a ball head jig? We fish small swimbaits on 1/8-3/8oz ball heads, but not really swimming them. I like the Gamakatsu Round jig, and they come in different size hooks. Picasso makes some nice tungsten versions with multiple hook options.

Re: Curado I Grinding Problem

Thanks for reporting back on the issue. That’s something that doesn’t usually come to mind when discussing that type of problem. Glad it was nothing major and you got it figured out.

What size guides? I use 4.5 SIC and Torzite, and have no issues with passing a 9 turn Albright through those guides.

Re: Fake G Loomis Conquest?

Everything about that rod looks fake  Terrible cork, epoxy is not smooth, labels don’t look right(Xs and Gloomis logo look terrible), thread color is way to blue, labeled Xfast and not fast, rod ratings are off (10-15lb????) and doesn’t look like it has the wrapping down the blank. They also ha...

Re: Curado I Grinding Problem

The fact that it comes and goes makes it difficult to diagnose. Would say it’s not the gears since you would feel it on every revolution of the main or pinion gears. I agree. I was messing around with one of them last night and I noticed that it felt like something was rubbing. I could feel it in t...

Same with the Pinion bearing(although like Gambler said, it’s always a good idea to check this bearing). I would say swap Anti Reverse...

Re: Duo Rozante 77 vs Pointer 78, Minnow 80SP vs Flash minnow

Yeah our "fluke" or summer flounder are even more aggressive up here, problem is very few flats to work with. I have a couple of breaks in mind, esp during the mullet run...would be a blast to ditch the gulp/keitech/soft plastics and just hunt doormats on hardbaits! After seeing several trolling vi...

Re: Duo Rozante 77 vs Pointer 78, Minnow 80SP vs Flash minnow

I’m definitely gonna have to try that Duo soon. Always looking for a good alternative to the FM. Thanks for the pic, looks sweet side by side! Have you ever used hard jerkbaits to target flounder? I plan on experimenting with a few deep divers for fluke up here this year. I usually throw jigs for f...

Re: the dying breed of US made rods

Great topic. I really enjoy my American made rods, GLoomis and Falcon make some great sticks! Own several of the Clark Wendlandt Falcon Cara rods and they are really nice for the price. Have sold a lot of rods in the past but those Falcons will stay on deck for a while. GLoomis NRX and GLX, no expla...

Re: Gear ratio: 8 VS 7?

Prefer 8+ to get that bait back quickly. Bottom contact is the only thing I use that ratio for though. Rod moves the lure with bottom contact, and rod fights the fish, so no issues with torque out of my Metanium XGs on big redfish.
