Re: Highlander

with all respect to current innovations in reels, I would go with the two tone Zebco Abu Cardinal 4 spinning reel, without any qualms or reservations. DECADES of trouble-free usage has given them a clear spot at the head of the class. definitely my go to reel. rod is a bit harder. maybe a shimano AE...

Re: Review: Major Craft Basspara 6-6 ULS

thanks for the timely, in depth review! I've been looking at a similar model, the basspara casting rods in UL, 6' 6", 6' 9". good to see some non stock pics.

Re: need some BFS rodbuilding advise

thanks for insights, guys. I think I will build the 4 wt first and maybe a 5 wt if it seems a good idea after I run the 4 wt through a few outings.

need some BFS rodbuilding advise

I would like some input on rods for a BFS outfit. I have a few blanks to build on : 2 wt. flyrod blanks 6'6",a sp781 and a 7'6" 4 wt. blank. I hope a round black max 3600 will match up adequately for my needs at present but may get a reel more suitable if needed. I will be throwing various baits of ...

Re: Guides and performance

if using today's very small, light weight guides, guide weight becomes close to negligible as far as impacting a rod's performance. micro guides will really keep weight down with a minimum impact on rod performance. large heavy guides are not used as much in custom rods and that concept is being car...

I got some abec 7 bearings for a neglected chronarch 100a.world of difference for the reel. I would buy from him again.

Re: need some help with zebco and abu garcia cardinal reels

I appreciate the replies and the advice. I did get some calipers and found some measurements on them. the zebco cardinal 4 reels need 10x19x7 bearings and an abu Garcia cardinal 3 will need a 7x14x5 bearing. a zebco cardinal 3 will need an 8x16x5 bearing. I put abecs in a chronarch 100a I "stole" at...

Re: If you could have just one reel

against the grain: i would take a zebco cardinal 4 spinning reel with an aluminum spool. have one(actually twenty or so) in use since around 1975. never failed me. i did change springs as a precaution about ten years ago. this is the reel i would want for survival. Wasn't the original an Abu and th...

SMOOOOOTH! Looks great. thread wraps are awesome. you put a lot of thought in that rod to get it to go together so well.

Re: Matagi vendor?

try getting hold of billy vivona / NERBS. xlrods@yahoo.com he goes by billy 40 on some websites, i believe. he has ordered much from matagi. he does send several orders out annually. probably as smooth a process to get an order out. bear in mind time for processing and shipping may be a while.
