U use this for crappie? Do bluegills have a problem with fitting it in their mouths?

I heard for some people that the symetre has the problem where the bail keeps on banging against your hand while reeling in because the reel shaft is too short. Is this only with the 500 and not 1000? I was looking at the Pflueger Supreme. Anyone has any experiences with this reel?
