I promised to take my 6 year old grandson to shore fish at a nearby lake. Not familiar with local spots. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mick

Budget Freshwater setup
Hi All,
my 6 year old grandson is ready to go fishing. Gave him a bunch of plastics so according to him he has enough bait. Next step is to find a suitable spinning set-up. You know, the type that if it falls in the drink I won't get upset
Thanks, Mick

Re: Round vs Low Profile reels. Which one do you prefer?
Just sold my last round level wind reel. I enjoyed fishing it on 9' rods. That said, the low profiles are much easier to deal with when a lazy thumb causes an overrun.

Re: Budget Sweet Spot... Casting Reels
I try to keep inshore reels under $250 and offshore reels under $500
Inshore reels like the new Tranx that sell for $280-300 are on my
shopping list so "out the window" goes my cost controls
Maybe do

Just wondering if time spent on Tackle Tour should count as much as posting? I've posted less than 100 times even though I've been here for 5 years

Re: Is it the rod or the reel?
I've used $100 rods with $300 reels. There are more rod manufacturers compared to reels makers to choose from, therefore more competition for the dollar. A few of the top rod makers have come out with decent low budget rods. You can find a few good inexpensive reels as well. If I was in this positio...

Re: Swimbait Reel
I use Shimano Curado's for swimbaits. The 200 & 300 series are very good. Smooth as silk, castes well and has pretty good stopping power. Practically maintenance free, just rinse and add a drop of oil to a few key locations.

Re: Megabass US vs Japan models
sweet! what do you plan on using the extreme mission for? do you own any other XX rods? I target saltwater calico bass in So. Cal. We have an 8 man charter group that loves to throw plastics from 1/4 to 1 oz. There's Yellowtail, white sea bass and a few rockfish mixed in. We fish shallows near stru...

Pulled the trigger. Hopefully won't need a warranty but will more than likely snap the tip off in no time. I'm an expert LOL

Megabass US vs Japan models
Hey Y'all. Hope everyone had a Happy New Years.
'Scuse my ignorance on the subject.
I'm considering buying the 7'5" Orochi "extreme mission" rod to go with a Curado 200I. I came across the JDM model for about $50 less. Besides the red color trim is it the same rod?
thanks, Mick

Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
I use 40 to 65# power pro braid and 50# suffix. Haven't had a problem with either. I fish in saltwater around structure, eel grass and paddies. Prefer shock leaders of flouro or mono top shots for swimbaits and live

Re: Daiwa J-Braid???
Recently tried the 40# j braid on a spinning reel and am satisfied with the feel of the line and casting. Haven't landed anything larger than a 2.5# calico bass. Next test will be tuna fishing this summer but feel confident about the quality of the product.
