Re: Shimano BFS Magnets
Thanks for your reply. From everything I've read, Shimano suggests adding the additional weights for extremely light lures. Seems ass-backwards to me. I got the reels (Aldebaran BFSs) initially because I thought they'd handle lighter baits (baisa, etc) a bit better than my Aldebaran MGLs and they do...

Shimano BFS Magnets
Does adding brake magnets allow for casting lighter lures? The BFS reels come with 6 brake magnets installed at factory, with 2 spares, which obviously affect casting. I'm not sure how the braking affects heavy vs. light lures.

Re: St Croix. . . . Naked
I strip all of mine (SC5s) and as Matt said, most are not great looking, but once in a while I get a "clean" looking one. They all perform well and the "ugly" ones have added character.

Re: Maxcuatro?
I'm hopeful that Maxcuatro will eventually be available in 10 or 15 lb test, which would be better suitable for spinning.

Re: Maxcuatro?
I was also skeptical, but after testing, I concluded it’s the real deal. Only thing I don’t like about the Maxcuatro is the color. I liked the aqua green of the PPSS, but the moss green is more difficult to see. Power Pro SS8…………….20lb .010” dia. break/fail @ 24-8 (25-4 w/line doubled around hook) P...

Re: Best braid out there?
I really like the Maxcuatro 20#, but I wish it was available in the same aqua green (easier to see) as PPSS8.

Re: Smaller Spinning Reels
If you feel that you need the weight of a reel to balance a rod, weight added to the butt would give you far better results using considerably less weight. You shouldn’t be using the rod to apply pressure to a snagged lure, so the rod shouldn’t be at risk. Just grip the spool, point rod at lure and ...

Down-Sizing Spinning Reels for Braid
It seems reasonable to rethink, or perhaps question the choice of reel if braided line is to be used. With the trend toward the use of braided lines, down-sizing reels should be considered. The larger reels incorporating bigger spool diameters (necessitated by stiffer monofilament/fluorocarbon line)...

Smaller Spinning Reels
Since reel specifications are normally considered when configuring and building spinning rods, it seems reasonable to rethink, or perhaps question the choice of reel if braided line will be used. It’s kind of a “chicken/egg” issue. With the trend toward the use of braided lines (with or without lead...

Re: Question for Bantam1 regarding Maxcuatro line diameters.
I got a replacement spool of the 20# Maxcuatro (hi-vis yellow) and its diameter measures as advertised. Problem (mislabeled spool) solved.

Re: MAXCUATRO LINE DIAMETER WARNING
I don’t think mislabeling can be construed as a lie…..more of a processing issue.

Re: MAXCUATRO LINE DIAMETER WARNING
Assuming that the spool is mislabelled, I’m trying to figure out what the pound test actually is. I measured (calipers) my other 20lb test as .0075” and the “mislabelled” 20lb spool measures .010”. According to the Maxcuatro specs, the 30lb is .009” dia. And the 40lb is .011 dia. I would think that ...
