Re: JDM line recommendation for UL trout fishing

I use almost 2 lbs exclusively and been using Sunline Sniper for years. No reason to change as I've not have many failures if at all. Of course, I do put on new line quite regularly. Last year, tried Gliss 8 lbs a few times as it is the thinnest line I know. That's not JDM but I used it for casting ...

Lightest 1003 Spool Size Spinning Reel?

I've not kept up with the latest/greatest but it seems that with advancement in technology, spinning reels should have become substantially lighter with the passage of time. What is the current lightweight state of the art in size 1003 spinning reels? And what is the weight in either gram or ounces?...

Re: Will the real 4# please stand up

Agree. I would go with actual diameter rather than lb test. And then do my hand stretch/break test. SOme use a scale for greater precision.

Re: Advice on 8-9ft JDM rods

Trout Bloke. Excellent post. Love all the interactions here. If I read you correctly, you mentioned 1/16th jigs twice. If so, I agree 100%. I am talking about 1/32 or lighter jig. I find that the lighter the jigs, more an overly long (that's subjective as to how long is overly long) rod negatively i...

Re: Advice on 8-9ft JDM rods

By the way, you also need to match the rod to your capacity to cast the rod quickly. Some guys have this incredibly fast twitch muscle and a can really SNAP the rod. In that case, you don't really need the lure to load the road - the rod blank, guides, wrap, and finish easily load the rod. In those ...

Re: Advice on 8-9ft JDM rods

I'm not sure if I read you right. You want max distance for 1 gram lures? If so, there's diminishing returns where a rod can get too long and actually reduce casting distance. With very light lures, the percentage of drag from line on the guides and the whippy rod is high relative to the kinetic ene...

Re: Broken Tict Ice Cube 69f rockin finesse

Sometimes, I've just cut off the broken part right up to the next guide. And once, it actually became a better rod...and I use it still. You may want to test that first before ordering a new top.

I am surprised that the solid carbon part broke - normally solid tips can be bent pretty severely.

Re: Daiwa GEKKABIJIN SW LIGHT JIGHEAD

Hi Randy,

I saw your post saying you are going down to size 10 instead of 8 and that 'it makes things easier'. Can you explain what you mean by that and why the shift? Have you ever had these hooks pull straight given how thin they are?

Thanks.

Re: Daiwa GEKKABIJIN SW LIGHT JIGHEAD

By the way, for those of you using this jighead, do you generally prefer the black or the white/pink heads? Do you think that it makes any difference?

Thanks.

Curious what you guys average in cost per pack of these jigs after factoring in shipping and fees.

Thanks.

Re: Daiwa GEKKABIJIN SW LIGHT JIGHEAD

Thanks. Yes, the 8 is a lot larger than the standard Trout Magnet jigheads - especially the hook and I always wondered if trout with good eyesight balk at a large hook. I know that more aggressive fish such as crappies do not seem to care.

Thanks for your comment.

Re: Daiwa GEKKABIJIN SW LIGHT JIGHEAD

Quick question Alphahawk & TMax37, I like the 0.5 gram heads for the troutmagnets. What size hooks do you use? The size 10 and 8 both fit and I am wondering if you found one preferable over the other, and why? Also, the size 10 is really very fine wire. I wonder if I will straighten it using anythin...

Re: Mini jig rod for trout.

Great question. It depends on the type of action, power, and line test you prefer. I am presuming that you will primarily use 2 lbs test? Regarding power, some like a very soft 'flippy' rod/tip, believe it is more sensitive and gives a proper jigging action with little effort. Others like a stiffer ...
