Re: spinning rod suggestions?

The Fuji VSS with the nut down is my spinning seat choice. The good thing about custom is that you can go minimalist (my preference), or you can add all of the Matagi bling and fancy wraps to get your rod to Megabass style. Make sure that you have a builder near you if you decide not to do it yourse...

I really think it is just about money, not product. For the right money I would certainly change brands, of underwear or almost anything else.
Let's not go to far! It's hard to fish with a wedgie :D

Re: A Lesson Worth Sharing

Megabass is known for their workmanship, limited availability, and very specific actions for specific applications. Customers expect a durable blank for the prices that Megabass charges. Also, Megabass probably can't afford to replace a lot of broken rods with their likely high labor costs and the s...

Re: Daiwa Z: Times Have Changed

The main reason that the Z2020 was not popular with true big bait fisherman is they have often have a "go big or go home" mentality that requires more line capacity than the Z2020 has. That is why it could be found for 50% off shortly after its production run. It is a great reel, but it is just not...

Re: Daiwa Z: Times Have Changed

I know of some big time internet swimbait guys and one time I offered my own Z2020 to them to allow them the see what the reel had to offer. I wasn't taken up on my offer and I offered to pay for shipping to and from and when i look back at it, i was being stupid. This is not a very accurate portra...

Re: Lexa 300 v. Tatula 200

I will use my original Tatula Type-R and OG Zillions with up to two ounce baits. The two Lexa 300H reels that I have are on my Hudd rod and my large rat rod (3-6 ounce baits). The drag on the Tatula only has one fiber washer. The process of catching one aggressive 15 pound catfish destroyed the drag...

Re: BFS Training Line

I wish I had a way to test the strength of 10lb Sniper, it seems a good bit stronger then it’s diameter would indicate. The Sniper breaks close to the IGFA ratings based on my decade or so of fishing it, and the articles that I have seen. USDM lines tend to break much higher unless it is rated as a...

Here is a picture of a Stormer almost identical to mine. The original Tuff wheels broke less that the newer (bigger hubs) version. I probably put 10,000 miles on that bike. It was a tank. More like an OG Zillion!

Re: SV103XS Spool Upgrades but what next

I have two of the SV103XS and one of the H. I should have bought a few more. All of mine have four handle bearings with SLP Works Super High Grip knobs, and a level wind bearing. The 103 spool is right in the wheelhouse of what an aluminum framed brass gear reel is usually used for. I would go with ...

Re: Weird incident with reel, but funny.

Yeah, because no one on here has ever had a problem with a Daiwa reels brake system  Nonsense like the piece in the side plate coming loose and can’t get any distance? [-X Both brands can have issues guys. You are right in that nothing is perfect. The various magnetic braking systems on Daiwa ...

Yes, oil on the friction ring will do some weird things to a reel's casting performance. Shimano makes a great product, but this is yet another example of why I prefer mag braking.

As has been said, you have to spend a lot of time with a technique to get completely comfortable with it. But, you will learn a lot quicker if you fish bodies of water that are conducive to the technique, and those bodies of water have solid fish populations. I grew up using hundreds of golf course...
