Re: Making Conquests Lighter

I've always been miffed as to why these rods aren't built this way in the first place. I'm a full cork rear grip guy, but I like what you did with the spit grip. I've always wondered what the similarly beautiful butt section on my Phenix K2 would look like as a split grip. =D> That Conquest answered...

Re: Tennessee grip question

Remove the rings. They are uncomfortable and useless. Use a no-stretch athletic tape under the electrical tape to attach your reel. The no-stretch tape helps keep your reel from moving. The whole point of a Tennessee grip is for it to be comfortable. Sand it down if you don't like the shape. You can...

Re: Any recommendations lures for crappies from bank?

Don't underestimate the ability of large crappie to inhale normal "bass" size baits ... I've caught them on full size Mann's Minus 1 crankbaits and 5" flukes. Their mouths are quite capable of opening very wide and they can be aggressive when the feedbag is on. I've gotten most of my better ones af...

Re: Moon underfoot major

I wouldn't sit a day out, I've noticed a difference since I've been paying attention. Can anyone go into further detail on why there is more fish activity during majors and minors throughout the course of any given day. You already answered your question in an earlier post. The moon's pull gets the...

Re: Let's see that backlash!

Maybe you need to spend less time fishing and more time trimming the shoreline brush with that weedeater string. ;) I used to carry hand pruners in my creel when I fished creeks for trout in my youth. The only thing that sucks about cutting new access is that other anglers will fish your spot. :cryi...

Re: What have you gotten back fishing?

I've caught about half a dozen rod and reel combos over the decades. One in the early 90's was a nice Fenwick Eagle rod and Shimano baitcaster combo that I quickly took home and tuned. A guy in my bass club paid me a good chunk of change for it. I managed to kick over a custom high end spinning comb...

Re: Any recommendations lures for crappies from bank?

I haven't fished Henshaw since the 80's. It was unbelievable for big crappie and numbers back then, but like any good crappie fishery, the word gets out quick and the meat fishermen kill it in a hurry. Vail and Silverwood used to have numbers and quality at the same time. I like 1/32 ounce head with...

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

These big Speckled trout are completely different animals than the smaller ones. This gator and her equally large buddy followed a hooked redfish at the start of the day, so I ended up staying and fishing through the area two more times. Next time through, they followed the lure to the kayak and sw...

Re: Any recommendations lures for crappies from bank?

The mini jig is still the best in my opinion because of the way it darts. It has influenced most of the other micro plastics. The supposed inventor of the mini jig is a famous legendary outdoor writer named "Crappie John" Beale. I came across John on Lake Henshaw around 1983. He could be seen on mos...

Re: Moon underfoot major

I've noticed the lunar tables DO matter. I ice fish quite a bit on a good day I'll graph nearly the same amount of fish on the flasher as a bad day, the difference is on the high percentage days they don't dawg me. Musky fishing too, I fish enough to have the spots dailed but I see more fish on goo...
