Re: Strike King Thunder Cricket

The 3D eyes are totally unnecessary. The fish have a lot more time to look at a jig, yet most jigs don't have them? Hello? Also, rock will destroy the eyes in a hurry. You can tie a factory skirt with braid, wire, or a zip tie in about 10 seconds. The blade is the big question mark? It will be inter...

Re: Who is the MOST over rated ?

The NRX rods have always been a joke to me. Way too many are built poorly. Many models are very tip heavy. Don't forget the quality control issues and the poor cork. I often wonder about the world's sanity when it comes to the NRX. Are people really so anxious for status that they are willing to thr...

Is there a consensus on that spool's performance? We got a little feedback earlier in the thread, but I was looking for more opinions on its niche.

Re: Drilling an Avail 16ALD15 Spool

I don't think that you will take out much more than a gram. Also, the holes let water into your reel. The DIY spools with holes are only about a gram less than the non-drilled spools. Why would you sacrifice strength, and keeping water out of your reel? You could also drill out the body panels on a ...

That is simple and clean. I've gone that route on a few of my reels also.

Re: Terminal Tackle Help

The Owner ST-36 is a great hook, and I use a lot of them, but one hook style for all applications is a bad Idea. You often need a stronger hook for smallmounth. KVD has spent a great deal of his career developing different treble hooks for different applications. You can google his videos and articl...

Re: Abrasion Resistance

It all depends on the formula that is being used. Some monos and fluoros are soft. Some are hard. Softer formulas of each material tend to have more stretch. Most fluoro leader specific formulas tends to be harder than most monos, and they have less stretch. The saltwater guys are the ones that tend...

Re: Best combo for a chatterbait?

You guys that are losing fish on the bladed jig aren't using the right tackle to get a good hook set, or are letting the fish get slack. Any jig style bait will tend to get thrown when a fish gets slack because of the heavy weight at the front of the hook. It is simple physics. The simple answer is ...

Re: Best combo for a chatterbait?

This topic has been beat to death on TT and every other fishing site that I frequent. The answer all depends on what you are fishing. The bladed jig can be thrown just about anywhere. Therefore, the answers will be all over the place. Brett Hite and many of the other guys that are throwing glass/com...

Re: Braided Line for winter Trout

I don't ice fish here in SoCal  , but it is also important to match your line to your hook diameter. Many of the light trout hooks don't do well with braid because it is low stretch. I tried braid many years ago for stream fishing int the Eastern Sierras. It was too unforgiving, on small fish e...

Re: New flip blank from point blank

Todd they do load smoothly but this year alone before I gave it away, my mh731 has lost over 35lbs worth of fish costing me 2 wins. What I found was for me the blank recovered much quicker than what I was wanting. I will say it does have a brunch of power. While swimming a jig this spring I was abl...

Re: New flip blank from point blank

The one thing I continually hear is how they don’t loose fish on them. This is also a quality of all of the Point Blank rods. They load up so smooth. There is no scrim that makes the rod feel brittle, or that also makes the blank want to unload too quickly. I have lost very few fish on all of the m...
