Re: Anyone have some time on the new Alphas 800

Adding drag pressure could be done with adding a larger surface area drag washer as stated above or a larger drag star to tighten things down a bit more but I haven't had the need for anymore. I know it's counter-intuitive, but adding surface area to the friction material will not increase your dra...

Re: Casting reel for light duty SmallMouth fishing

As you can see there are lots of options :). Grew up fishing small creeks for smallmouth, and you can't go wrong with either a pixy platform or Alphas platform. Re: How to remove Alphas spool tension threads

I'd buy one of those collars and strip/polish it instead of risking irreparable damage to the reel.

I don't think you can remove that part, but hedgehog and some others used to sell collars to cover the visible part with a different color.

Rod Geeks Blanks

Just received my first two Rod Geeks blanks today, and these will probably be the last. Paid extra for a custom paint option on the butt section and the paint quality is a joke. Both blanks have huge inclusions in the paint, bigger than dust particles, scratches, and there is some sort of residue at...

Re: Idea/Invention

Look at a Rick Clunn STX next to a Megabass 110. That's about how far you should trust a tackle manufacturer. Everyone copies everyone regardless of IP/trademarks/patents. If I remember the story correctly, Megabass sued, won, and the STX was changed just enough to appease the court. Still basically...

I’m ready Steve! From the thread linked above: Anyone machining the boss down on one of these reels will get a free punch in the face from yours truly. Really, no charge at all. :D    Well, my arm can't reach from Chicago to Maryland, so I think you're safe for now. Looks good ...

Yup (assuming you're talking casting version). Love mine. Use it mostly for soft plastics in streams and rivers for smallmouth.

Re: Phenix x-13 blank custom crankbait

Hi John, I don't have the X13 but did build myself an X12 several years ago and love it. Lighter power than the 13 of course, but it'll throw anything between 3/16 and an ounce shockingly well. Prior to that rod I'd only fished full graphite rods, and I think the slower glass portion of the rod real...
