Help: 8x5 to 7x4 mm Handle Shim or Spacer

Does anyone have any leads to where I can buy or make a 8x5 to 7x4 mm handle spacer? This would be to use a Daiwa or Abu handle on a Shimano reel. I remember there was a thread somewhere on the web about 6 years of someone making them. I have seen them in kits from Aliexpress but no one selling them...

Re: How long can a bass live out of the water???

In short it depends on the stress the fish incurs whether that is during capture, holding, handling, levels of oxygen, temperature, salinity, ammonia, etc. Mortality will also occurs after the fish is released so don't always be stoked if a fish swims away. This is because high stress events can dec...

Re: up locking or threadless spinning reel seat

The St. Croix Eyecon seat is a Fuji IPS reel seat. The VSS is similar but is more of a straight grip shape and the IPS has more of a hump to grip. The IPS will have a larger OD I believe also. I build on both of these seats and prefer the VSS for a cleaner look and the IPS for a larger hand/comfort/...

Re: Is it worth picking up? Used Fuego 2000a

I know a lot of people have chimed in already, but I love My Fuego 2500a and use it more than my Steez and Aegis cause it is a workhorse and I won't crack a tear if I scratch it. But really it is a great reel and if you don't pick it up there then it is worth finding another to buy. The going rate i...

Re: Looking for new spinning reel $150 to $230

For that budget I would keep an eye out for a the previous generation Daiwa Steez/Exist, Daiwa Aegis or a Luvias in 2506/2508. I sometimes see Steezs for $250, Aegis for $150-200 and Luvias for $150~. I have owned all of these reels and like the connected, precision machined feeling of this tier of ...

Re: Rod tip suggestions

You have a few options for sizing. 1. Buy a cheap sizer from Mudhole and DIY it. 2. I don't know where you are but many tackle shops have a whole array of tips and or a sizer and might be able to help. 3. If you have a set of calipers, measure the tip one cm down and then call Mudhole/ online retail...

Re: Megabass Xpod/Xpod Jr. discussion

I have one and have been carrying it around for a season. The action is not a smooth walking action on any of the lip settings and I felt like if I wanted a walking, diving, popping bait, there were others that did it better eg. spook jr, gunfish, etc. There is a lot of side rolling and erratic acti...

Re: 4 inches off the back please...

I'm not sure if you have thought about this but when you cut off the back you will be affecting the balance of the rod. The tip will become much heavier and it will feel different all around. If you are going to cut it 4 inches from the butt, do it one inch at a time, and use a very fine tooth saw t...

Re: "Castifying" a spinning rod

I would second the going for it and trying it out. With a UL rod the spine wouldn't be a huge issue and the trigger is only something to get used to. I actually prefer it and build some of my rods that way cause the triggers don't always line up where my hands are resulting in cramping. I forget whi...

Re: Spinning reel again...

The previous gen Steez/ Exist is where I would spend my money and around the web they can be had for 300-400. I used my friends Vanquish and was not that impressed with it to the point where I would prefer it over my Steez/Ageis/Fuego. I have owned many Shimano reels over the years including the Str...

Re: Travel rod for the keys?

I don't know what length you want but check out the Phenix Red Eye series. I checked them out recently and was very impressed by the balance, design, and consistency (no flat spots) of the 3 piece design. I build all of my own and have a set of mhx travel rods already but I would not hesitate to rec...

Re: Most expensive 2-piece baitcasting rod

If you are in the market for a quality 2 piece rod you'd might consider a custom build. At $2-400 a builder can make you a really balanced, beautiful rod that will be sensitive and light as the blank it is built on (and there are many 2 piece blanks out there). I build my own rods now and have a who...

Re: How would I shorten the handle on my Nautilus?

This is my .02 If you have a power wrapper or lathe.... 1. hit the butt with a heat gun/hairdrier and give it a twist. If that doesn't work, cut the EVA off carefully (both sides) and hit it again with the heat. epoxy should get soft and be easier to come out. if the butt comes out, do the same for ...

Re: Salvaging from a broken rod

try heating up the reel seat with a hair dryer or heat gun and twisting it off. You might be able to salvage it, but a standard fuji reel seat is $5.... EVA is not worth saving. The butt cap can come off with a twist or heat also.

Good luck
