Re: Flourocarbon on Spinning reel

Sometimes you need to bomb a cast just to clear the line and crank back to re-seat the line onto the spool. Depends on the actual reel as some needs like to clear every 10 casts, while others may need like only once every 100 casts or so. You get a feel for your reel as you start to see gnarly line...

Re: Braid to fluorocarbon

A lot of guys seem to like the FG, but I use the Alberto knot and can't imagine anything being much stronger. It's stronger than my terminal knot and I can tie it pretty easily. This. On my (mostly) lighter spinning and casting gear with 10 to 20lb braid I've been using the Alberto for better than ...

Any feedback on Shimano Curado 6'10" Hvy or St Croix 6'8" MH

I'm looking for a general purpose heavy action rod to pair with an Abu Revo Rocket reel. I'd like to keep the rod under 7 feet and I prefer the 6'8 to 6'10 range. The St Croix MH fast Legend Tournament 6'8 has my attention, but the Shimano is pretty good looking with a full grip and a price point $1...

Re: GYCB Fat Ika?

With the Fat Ika, having the skirt facing towards the hook eye will add 10% to the casting distance. It becomes a real bullet. Also, when you pop it off the bottom, it swims back to the bottom but in the direction opposite to your position - it swims away. This is very cool when fishing rip-rap alon...

My SF is one of my favorite reels to fish and balances beautifully on a Powell c733. Killer outfit for swim jigs!

Re: longest running hardest working reel

Penn 710 spinning reel - you didn't ask for a bass reel or freshwater only answer! The "greenie" is a legend. I have one going on 50 years old that's been fished thousands of hours in brutal saltwater jetty conditions. It looks like hell, but I'm willing to bet substantially that it can beat whateve...

Re: St. Croix Avid X

That is a spectacular price on a superb rod. Essentially its been around for 10 years without much change - the Avid X is mostly a change of grip and guides over a standard Avid with SCII graphite. I use mine for essentially all small moving baits. If I saw a new Avid X in the corner of the tackle s...

I use both 6lb and 8lb on spinning gear on 2500 size reels. Great performance, stellar value.

Drag star choice for Chronarch 50e

So far I've found an Avail drag star for a 50E that will accommodate an offset handle. What other choices are out there? I added a Basszone handle and knobs, but the handle doesn't clear the stock drag star. Thanks for any help.

Re: Parts for CH50e compatibility question

Unfortunately, BNT4045 Cast Control Cap does not swap out. It's too large to fit on the CH50e - maybe it fits the 200 frame, IDK. But it doesn't work on the CH50e. I haven't tried fitting the BNT4056 Quick Fire II clutch bar yet. It looks right, but I didn't pull the reel apart.

Re: Parts for CH50e compatibility question

Awesome! I thought I'd read that the 50 platform was pretty universal among models, but this is my first rodeo and its good to confirm.

Thank you.

Parts for CH50e compatibility question

I'm working on my Chronarch 50e and would like to give it a bit of a facelift. I've installed a Basszone handle and knobs and have a set of Hedgehog bearings ready to go. I'd like to change the thumb bar to the Core 50MG7 version - part number BNT 4056 quickfire clutch bar. Will this part fit the CH...

Re: 10 pound test Sufix Siege -baitcasting?

10lb Siege is .012 diameter. In comparison, Sunline Supernatural is .012 for 14lb test. You have to look at diameter to make a good decision. On my general use baitcasters I use .012 to .015 mono and on my spinning set-ups I'll always keep it below .010. I've been using Siege as an all-around mono o...
