Re: best baitcasting reel

ill throw a vote in for the black sheep... but if you can afford it/find it a very close relation is the Millionaire bay area special Blue Backer. The blue bakcer is also a reel designed for heavy duty work while still being a very capable caster. Otherwise, the Luna and Calcutta TE or Calcutta conq...

Re: So Long FC

Im becoming disillusioned with fluoro cabron. I am finding that any type of crimp on cinch in the line is very bad, my particular problem occurs in at braid to leader knots in which the FC is doubled over. When testing the knot the FC breaks at the 'u' bend at very low tension desipte being 10-20lb ...

Re: Calcutta/Luna/Record Casting Reels - Trying to Decide

Congrats Kpeace. Should be agood reel for you. Sorry about the late reply.

The drag on the luna will be more than enough for most saltwater species. (unless your targetting large sharks, mackeral and marlin )

Yes. Use the double uni to join braid to mono lines. Just google it, shouldnt be hard to find.

Re: Poll: Do you tape your Wiffle Spool with Teflon tape?

I voted no, but it is not because it defeats the purpose (which is to lighten the spool) but mainly because i didnt think of doing it when i last respooled. Probably something ill start though since i do fish both saltwater and fresh water.

Re: Line Per Handle Turn

I gotta say Kb, ive been fishing a Pflueger supreme for a few months now and im not very impressed with it. Cosmetics are beautiful, its very confortable in my hand nad has a good retreive rate, external brake adjustment and out of the box it was so smooth, but i didnt find the casting that great. I...

Re: Tuna video

That was a long video.

To be honest, i didnt really enjoy it. I would have liked to see the people playing the fish as opposed to just watching heaps of good tuna being gaffed and skulls smashed in with a mallet.

Re: Advice For A Newbie Baitcaster

Tip 2: Dont whip it out there on your second cast. I was showing a make how to use a baitcaster and i told him to start out really slowly, and he did. First cast and the lure went no where. So second cast he really gives it some and it hit the water right in front of him and there went half a ...

Re: plastic gears in new Shimano

i dont have a lot of experience with fishing reels, but im fairly sure all the calcuttas and millionaires used plastic gears to drive the levelwind. I know my conquest 200 and CVZ300 both have plastic gears driving the levelwind. As you said, it isnt a place that is under a lot of pressure and it do...

Re: Top of the line Daiwa Round b/c reel...?

Hi Kayak. Still havent decided eh? I still dont know anything about the Luna, but if you want a reel specifically for large Barra, you cant go wrong with the blue backer or black sheep. These reels are both engineered to handle very big fish. They have large gears and longer handles than the old CVZ...
