Taking spooled reels on flights...

Years ago I read that taking reels that were spooled with line was a no-no for most airlines. Is this still a thing? Planning to take some gear with me on my next vacation and would strongly prefer not to check my reels and want to make sure I don't have any issues carrying stuff on.

Mini Fat Rap. It's like 4g, but also the only one I have a lot of experience with and faith in.

Re: 2019 Shimano Vanquish; 1000SSSPG or 2000SSS?

Still thinking this one out. I do eventually want a designated low gear ratio reel specifically for UL jigging. I would absolutely purchase a 2000SPG Shimano made one. Still not 100% clear on how JDM Shimano spinning reel sizes work, but I believe the C2000S and C2000SSS spools can be used on the 1...

Re: Shimano Stradic 19

I don't understand why USDM spinning reels keep coming out with obscene line capacities relative to what fishermen are actually loading the reel up with/using reels for. I get it for lower end coffee grinders that regular Joe is buying at Walmart and filling up with 200 yards of whatever line that h...

Re: Ester mono.

Thanks for the informative thread on this line, definitely want to try it out. I used straight 4lb mono for years and recently switched to 5lb powerpro+4lb fluoro which is generally a much better feel for me. I either fish deep for redear, shallow for redear or shallow/medium depth for bluegill. Sou...

couple questions about sending reels in

Haven't sent anything to Shimano in many many years. Have a Calais DC that has a stuck clutch so can't get it into freespool. Wondering if this reel is still covered by the Platinum Service/if Shimano still has parts for this reel? Also have a JDM Met MGL HG that is getting a tiny bit crunchy. Is th...

Re: '19 Vanquish 2500SHG

These look so good and the few reviews I've read have been glowing. Strongly considering getting a C2000SHG for UL. Would be a huge upgrade over the Symetre 500 and 750 that I've used for many years. Haven't bought a rod or reel in a really long time and kinda want to spoil myself a little. The kid ...

Wacky hook size for 5" Senko?

Haven't fished a senko wacky rigged since I first started using them 15+ years ago and we just used regular ewg worm hooks back then. Now every technique has a fancy hook. What size are you all using for your wacky rigged 5" senkos? 1/0 seems about right?

Anyone have experience with Troutin Marquis telescopic models?

Looking at the three spinning models. Primary lure will be 1/32 and 1/16oz jigheads with 1-2" plastics, and the occasional spoon, spinner or crankbait in the 3 gram to 1/8oz range. My TSR801-2 is perfect for those for a day out on the boat, but I'm looking for something that takes up no space in my ...

Re: Anyone have experience with the 13 Omen Black travel rods?

Thanks for the suggestions. Sounds like the 13 rod definitely isn't what I'm looking for. Daiwa Ardito and St Croix Triumph were at the top of my list after a bit more research. Ended up snagging the MH Ardito for $82 on some site that had like 30% off on it already plus another 10% with a Father's ...

Anyone have experience with the 13 Omen Black travel rods?

Buying a rod to leave in my car to let a friend use if they want to meet up with me. I'm personally not a fan of spinning gear, but I could see myself actually bringing it on vacation just in case I see some fishy looking water. My spinning arsenal currently consists of one Stradic 2500 FJ, some 13 ...

Re: Where are the shimanos?

There is no piece of fishing equipment on the market that I find more aesthetically pleasing than the current line of Conquests. I can't believe I don't own a 100HG.

Re: Shimano Loomis Conquest rods

I've all but retired from fresh water (and the gear I have is more than sufficient for anything and everything I'd ever want to do in freshwater anyway) over the past few years and my limited fishing time has been pushed solely to saltwater. Now 100% shorebound since I've sold both my boats and whil...

Re: Chronarch 150G vs Met MGL and Chronarch 150G in saltwater...

Had a chance to go out for a little bit today and my fears already came true. Got down to the water, pushed the clutch down...and nothing happened. Put the reel back in gear, pushed the clutch back down and pulled some line out only to hear a not so good grinding noise. I slammed out a few casts any...

Chronarch 150G vs Met MGL and Chronarch 150G in saltwater...

Anyone have experience with both of these reels side by side and have a strong opinion on the performance of one vs the other? Also, how are your Chronarch 150G holding up in saltwater? I bought my Met MGL the moment they were available in Japan and it's the best reel I've ever used. By far. Unfortu...
