Re: No love for the newer Megabass Tomahawks?

I am like you. I have thought about the same rod. I have always wanted a GT3. For me $400 is a fair amount for a rod. The GTZ used zylon in the construction. Zylon was used in the construction of deep sea rods. It is tough, but it is heavy. Bass Pro had a series of bass rods made of zylon long befor...

Re: crank bait trebles

I use the ST 41s and standard VMC hooks like the ones on the old Poes for many of the baits I make. I have tried so many hooks over the years and they just work fo me. Another hook that I use one my personel baits are Eagle Claw. I know many feel that it is just a cheap hook. But the numbers of fish...

Re: Frog rod for punch/flip or flip rod for froggin?

If I had to choose a rod for what you want it would be the Rushburn. I have watched so many Youtube clips of that rod being used for flipping, frogging, swimbaits, and even punching. They even pick up 8lb bass and boat flop them. It is the real deal. You don't need 7'10 rods to punch or flip. Jackal...

Re: What setup am I missing?

So do you fish close or do you like making long casts? If you like in close I would recommend a 6'6" rod. However, you can do it with a 7 ft rod too. Get rid of the flipping stick (since you really don't use it much) and the big swimbait setup (because you really didn't say that you are weighting do...

Re: What setup am I missing?

My first thoughts are how do you really like to fish? What baits do you throw consistantly that produce for you where you fish? Most of us are not "road warriors" and fish limited bodies of water. We pretty much know what will work and what won't. The 6'6" Med is an excellent choice for drop shots, ...

Re: Coangler Tackle Space?

I have had plenty of non boaters on the back of my boat. I have fished local, in state, and have spent my share on the road. I expect a co-angler to bring his own drinks and food. Be considerate with the food because I don't want to have to spend my evening cleaning up your crumbs out of my boat. An...

Re: Megabass telescopic rod

I have been using a 7'6" telescopic Kistler flipping stick for over 8 yrs. I don't find it unballanced or less sensitive compared to a 1 piece blank. At 4.7 oz. it is lighter than a lot of long rods on the market. I don't miss many fish with it. I have seen and held the 711. The feel of this rod is ...

Re: Expride reviews/opinions

I got to compare the Adrena and Expride rods a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get to fish them, but I did get them in my hands for inspection. In short, none of these rods are extremely light. My original Kistler LTAs and Helium IIs are much lighter. I guess it is all of this new layering of graphite...

Re: Megabass Punching rod

I finally got to see and hold a Record Breaker 77. I was very impressed with it. It is a beautiful piece of work. It fit comfortably in my hands, and is ballanced well for a flipping stick. I can see where Gary is comming from on it being a good jig rod. The components were straight and lined up. Th...
