Re: rod for my calcutta b?
What size is your Calcutta B? You already own that and have a good $$$ investment in it. Maybe someone on the Board has that size and is pleased with a certain rod that they have matched it up with. I have a Calcutta B on a Musky rod. The rod is a St. Croix Premier “Musky” rod. The Premier “Musky’ i...

Re: 2013 St. Croix Rods
I'm not sure if it works for your situation, but I always order direct from St. Croix (there never seems to be a good selection of Elites or Extremes in the retailers I buy from). They ship fast and the freight is pretty reasonable - I can't recall for sure, but I think it's in the $15 range or may...

Re: St. croix Avid casting
Quite a stout rod. If your not over 1/2oz this rod isn't for you Agree. You already have a couple of indicators that this would be a stiff stout rod if you want sensitivity. The “H” power for one. Then with the rod # on the Chart on the St. Croix Avid Casting, the AVC70 is rated 3/8 oz to 1 3/8 oz....

Re: So brand oriented you can't help it..
i am now die-hard St Croix. Easy answer is there made in the USA if you get an avid or higher. My little part trying to make this country strong and put Americans to work. =D> Now if we could make a reel that was high quality that would be supper!!!!! I get Diawa reels. I’m strictly St. Croix for m...

Re: rod for kids beginner level
Actually for me a no hassle reel ended up being more important than the rod. They may use a bobber with the rod half the time or more anyway. And depending on the age of the kids, like are they too young yet to deal with and you teaching them a spinning reel? I got tired of teaching them to cast and...

Re: Shipping Disaster Help needed.
Hdnribs, congrats on the great resolution from the vendor. Sounds like a class act. Then I was going to ask the same thing as Mattman, did the vendor advise you on what to do to with the damaged goods? Have you return it through the shipper or just tell you to keep it? oh, did you get to open the tu...

Re: Shipping Disaster Help needed.
Good luck. One day to go. Just as a thought for bad shipping experiences and some people are just snake bit. I’ve seen tons for posts where guys receive damaged goods shipped UPS. And another ton where guys frequently receive damaged boxes from the USPS. I get some pretty sad looking boxes delivered...

Re: Shipping Disaster Help needed.
I agree with Mattman. I wouldn’t open it and wait until Monday and let the retailer advise you on what to do/how to proceed and how they would like to do it. If it’s not insured through USPS with the postage, some retailers that ship a lot could be self-insured too which may make a difference. Did y...

Re: Which 3 are you taking?
I just keep two on my boat. Spinning. A St. Croix legend Elite ML F and a Legend Elite M F. Those were upgraded a year ago or so ago from a St. Croix Avid ML F and a Cabela’s XML that doesn’t say on the rod but by feel more of a M F. I don’t even own a Heavy.

Re: Shimano 1000 size spinning reels ????????
Not saying that some people do use the 1000 for bass fishing, for the light tackle challenge, but probably most go with a larger size, 2000 anyway mostly 2500. And the 1000 for trout and panfish. Plus you can run into a lot of people that latch onto a bass while fishing for panfish and manage to bri...

Re: Best $120 Spinning Reel?
$120.00 is a tough price break to match exactly. Probably easier to find would be $100. , then again a $150.00 price point. A Penn Battle is a heck of a reel for $100.00. I could highly recommend it, but. . . . . . Penn and the Battle are better known for the reputation as salt water reels and that ...

Re: Shimano Sahara
You probably already know this but with Shimano the letters go up one with each phase out then new upgrade, (generation) of the reels. i.e. FD old phased out generation, FE new introduction of Sahara. And it seems like Shimano insists on doing this about yearly or so. Introducing a supposed new and ...

Re: Reel Question
For just recreational fishing where one is going for the entire experience a a full variety of rods and reels is perfect IMO. Just depends on how you approach the sport. I’m not a tournament competitive fisherman. I love to fish, will spend when I have to, and consider the entire experience as my r...

Re: Shimano/Daiwa
Hey guys, Looking into getting some new reels and cant seem to decide on what brand to go with. I prefer to go with all of the same brand and probably higher end reels. I need about 8 casting reels and 3 spinning. I have some questions that I really do not know much about. 1. Do either of these com...

Re: St Croix trade up program
I am considering trading my Avids for Legend Elites, using their program. Has anyone done it before? Any problems? Thanks I’ve done it a couple of times. No as in none as in zero problems. I’ve used about all their programs. I took a replacement on warranty one time, an Avid for an Avid. I used the...
