I prefer a shorter rod in pads for the leverage and 30# braid as it cuts through the pads better. my new favorite rod when chunking into heavy pads is the Powell Max frog rod. it is 7' 3" and i find it much easier to pull fish through the pads with it than the 7.5' rods i have used in the past.

I would pick the Powell you listed or the Max Square Bill rod. I have the Square Bill and have used it for everything you mentioned. It is a spectacular do it all rod. It is graphite and quite sensitive. It is not a typical crank bait rod.
