Re: Chronarch 150G vs Met MGL and Chronarch 150G in saltwater...

I’m in very similar situation. Love using casting for Inshore, and spending more time chasing reds in skinny water than freshwater bass these days. Looking for that reel that casts a mile and is durable enough for the salt. Had recent conversation with Bantam1...his reply to one of my questions was:...

Re: Chronarch 150G vs Met MGL and Chronarch 150G in saltwater...

Very interested in this thread...and somewhat reflects my concern. I went back and forth on whether I should try the latest met mgl for general use...including inshore...as the comments on it's casting distance have been impressive. I have a couple of DC reels, Antares 16 and the 17 Exsense...where ...

Re: New fireline fused 8 carrier

I've been keeping up with this thread's updates as it moves along. I tried the original fireline crystal in 10lb last fall chasing reds on a spinner and was very impressed with the casting. I'm interested in trying this on my shimano dc casting reels...one for general bass fishing and the other for ...

Saltwater durability: Calais DC or Exsence DC

Is there anything about the build of these two reels that would suggest one would be better suited for inshore/wading light surf than the other? Paranoia has kept my Calais freshwater bound, but if if they are both equal in salt durability, that'd save me some money to put towards a new NRX. I'm not...

Re: Fresh water rods for inshore?

Thanks for all the replies. I sincerely appreciate the help. This is exactly what I wanted to hear. Now if I just had the guts to use my Calais DC inshore, I'd really be getting more use out of my money.

Re: Fresh water rods for inshore?

Thanks. Was thinking since there's a distinction made between inshore and fresh, beyond obvious marketing, I was concerned about components such as guides not fairing to well in the salt environment. I guess that's not the case.

Fresh water rods for inshore?

Giving thought to trying a St Croix LExtreme. I'd like to use in inshore application as well to get biggest bang for buck. What do you guys think? Bad idea, or stupid question all together?

Thanks

Re: DC: Calcutta or Calais

Thanks again guys. I must not be settin up my Calais correctly. I was able to seriously chuck a 4" senko the other day though. I'm currious as to how you set your main spool knob. It seems like on the Calais, it doesn't start slowing down the lure drop until almost full on, where as the TE seem...

Re: DC: Calcutta or Calais

Thanks to all for their time and thoughts. I'd scoured the Internet over the las few weeks looking for these thoughts and comparisons, and found a few, but put this post out to gather last minute thinking. I don't know why I am wrestling this. I own the Calais DC and the Calcutta te 200gt. There's j...

DC: Calcutta or Calais

Would like to hear from those that have used both. I have a calcutta te 200 gt which I love, and like the round reel shape. Is the calais going to have the edge on casting distance given all other variables are equaled, or are they going to be about the same? Any other general thoughts in comparison...

Re: Shimano Calais DC

Thanks for the fast reply Lon. I'm thinking of trading/selling my Calcutta for the DC variant. Yes, you answered my question...which was whether the older DC system worked as well as the newer 4X8 in the Calais...

Re: Shimano Calais DC

lpquick, I own the Calais DC 200 as well as the Calcutta te gt 200. What I've come to realize is that if I had a Calcutta with the DC braking, it'd be my perfect reel. My question to you is, do you feel the Calcutta DC you own is less flexible with it lacking the Calais's 4X8 DC system? Appreciate t...

I'm somewhat familiar with the Conquest, but what does "upgraded" mean? Have they modified this in anyway?

Calcutta CTE 100GT?

So, I called up Tacklewarehouse to order one of these...have fallen in love with the 200...and the guy tells me these are discontinued. I called Shimano, and yes, they've been discontinued. Shimano informs me that although they are not sure what will happen, usually they replace a discontinuation wi...
