Re: What are co-polymer and multi-polymer fishing lines?
Most monofilament lines these days are not straight nylon - they are a soupmix of ingredients. For example, an abrasion resistant line may have an additive to reduce friction.

Re: Why do people fish such heavy breaking strain lines when targeting bass?
The real reason many bass fishermen use heavy line may surprise you. Many bass fishermen use baitcasting reels. Because no type of reel is perfect, baitcasters are subject to professional overruns/birdnests. These birdnests cause kinks in mono and fluro which weaken the line......so, that 20lb line,...

The Maxima starts at 50lbs. I probably won't be using that for bass this week!

Re: Is it true that US and Japanese line manufacturers have different lb rating system
American companies play games with pound test ratings on lines.... for a strong line, they put 12lb. test in an 8lb. box so they can claim it's the strongest line. Of course it's super strong, it's 12lb. line! Duh! For an easy handling line, they put 10lb. line in a 12lb. box. This does not m...

Re: Break offs
I did get an earlier backlish though. - Bingo. Kinks in the line cased by tight turns in knots or backlashes can severly weaken mono and fluorocarbon. Things you can do (and some of these you may not want to hear): Find a line that handles kinks better (clue: Lines with better knot strength), a lar...

Re: Abrasion Resistance
Beware of abrasion tests.........dry tests can have different outcomes than wet tests.....I would think the wet tests would be more important....... we usually need abrasion resistance under water, in the real world. That said, fluro, across the board, generally seems to have more abrasion resistanc...

Re: IGFA rated lines
Stren Original mono should break at it's labeled strength. They advertise it as boating a world record Marlin....... perhaps a line class record? Sufix used to have an IGFa line that looked good in some test reports. I think it was called Key Lime... something? Stren Super knot, or whatever the late...

Re: Does PLine CXX float
The CX and CXX are going to sink at about the same rate as most monos. For a floating mono, I'd look at the new P-line Topwater or discontinued Ironsilk. The old Ironsilk does not absorb water at the same rate as traditional mono so it sinks slower. I suspect P-line Topwater is similar in this regard.

Re: Is there that much "junk" line making it to shelves?
Ahh, the old mysterious breakoff issue. Yeah it's a problem sometimes. Some lines are weaker than others, people don't choose based on diameter like they should, and knot strength can vary widely.......... knot tying is an art. Another issue you may never have heard of......... mono and fluro lines ...

Re: Gamma Fluoro and CoPoly
Gamma Fluoro: I have not tried any of the Gamma fluoros.......I like a line I can see, so I have been using Vanish Transition for fluro and worm fishing. The largemouth in Florida don't seem to care about line color. Topwater: I historically use plastic worms 99% of the time, but I have been revisit...

Re: Mono Vs Fluoro
I have seen some fluoros in the early days that were less visible than mono.......at certain angles to the light, sections of fluoro would look much thinner, almost as if it was disappearing. It was like camouflage mono. However, the fluoros I have seen in recent years appear more white? So perhaps ...

Re: The most manageable and limpest fluoro-coated copoly
Believe it or not, fluoro-coated mono does nothing over mono - there is not enough fluorocarbon content to "do" anything. It's a marketing gimmick.
If you want a manageable line, try Trilene XL or Spiderwire EZ mono (They are about the same).

Re: Saltstrong abrasion test
I'm not going to look at the test because I don't care - but did they test wet or dry? - that can change everything. Yes, I have seen some monos more abrasion resistant than some Fluoros. However, fluoro abrasion resistance trumps most monos. It depends on what model of line you are looking at. And ...

Re: Stretching flourocarbon line
Sure, I sometimes stretch my fluorocarbon before I go fishing, it reduces memory.
Sometimes I just wait for a fish to stretch it out!
For best results, wet the line AND stretch it.

Skechers has a huge lineup of men's sport shoes, including boat shoes, and just about every tread design and style you could imagine, at bargain prices. That's the only place I buy shoes anymore.
