Re: H2O crankbaits
A reasonable question, but a provocative and irrelevant statement.., imo.

Re: KVD 1.5 replacement hooks
Lucky 1, you might want to split the difference and try going up just one size to # 3's. You can get them in short shanks also. I haven't had any problems with the stock size # 4's on any of my square bills though. I have gone up to #3's on some other lures, and it helped noticeably, while maintaini...

Re: I need help finding a good wake bait.
Pretty much tried all the above, but for what you're asking, I like the OSP Dai Buzzin', Rapala DT 1, Deps Spiral Minnow / Buzzjet ( you can really roll the Spiral' ), Jackal Mikey, Black Dog Shell Cracker G2 ( not too fast though ), LC WK ( all sizes ), Spro BBZ-1, LC CA, but my evening favorites a...

Re: Dobyns rod defects?
Same thing happened to me a year ago this past Easter, my 703C snapped on a sweep-set ( fishing a Tiki Stick ) about foot forward of the reel seat. I hand-lined a 1 lb dink. However, service was great, and that means plenty, didn't cost me a thing but the one way shipping. I wouldn't and wont hesita...

Re: Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate Mono
Gave this 12lb line a decent workout today and it seems to be just what the label says it is. It also may be the lowest stretch mono/copoly out there, much less than 15lb Senshi, handled snags w/o any visable damage to the line and appears it must over test, very sensitive on my Powell 684cb and tha...

Re: Pistol Minnow?
Finally tried this bait out today. I was putting up my gear, when I saw the Pistol Minnow laying there, tied it on and gave it a few casts to see how it runs. Well, this bait works great; looks good, walks easy, spits and pops, and does what it's supposed to do...catch fish. But, I did put an oval s...

Re: Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate Mono
Me three, I mainly use Senshi mono for contact baits, but I handled some Ultracast Ultimate at a local store today and was impressed with its stretch, or rather the lack thereof. First thought was.. big hookset = broken knot. When I thought about my Powell 684cb, this may be just the ticket to make ...

Re: Fenwick Elite Tech SM 6'10 MH Mod. Fast
Thanks, sj, that exactly what I wanted to hear and just what I thought you might say after posting my comments. I forgot about my big sq. bills w/ #2 + trebles and you reminded me why I purchased it the first place. I nearly always take hook size into consideration as well as lure weight when matchi...

Re: Fenwick Elite Tech SM 6'10 MH Mod. Fast
I took shipment on this rod 2 wks ago, but have yet to get it wet. I had read smalljaws post regarding this rod and was impressed with what he had to say about it. I was at the time trying to decide between a Dobyns 705CB or either a GL 845CB or their Bronzback series crank. I was on Amazon looking ...

Pistol Minnow?
Visited Academy Sports today to spend a gift certificate, as usual I walked through the fishing dept and saw a lure out of its box lying on the self. A Gunfish!?, no...a Pistol Minnow. I bought one ( $5.99 ) and brought it home. Just like a gunfish, 'cepting about 15 gr. heavier ( no split ring ). M...

Re: Split ring for topwater baits?
I dunno... yet, but I'ma gonna find out next trip. I have read that it does ( spook ), but have fished walking baits for so long without them that I have resisted the change. However, I did put a ring on a lure last week that I rarely use anymore although it almost always gets lots of hellacious str...

Re: whats your squarebill brand?
I have about a dozen or so LC cranks, and few more even higher dollar than LC's. I use H2O cranks mostly, and consider the Xcallibur and RC square bills to be essentially knock-offs of the Academy cranks, x'cept a bit more pricey, as H2O's were out before them. Sooo.... we have a knock-off of a knoc...
