Re: What Ever Happen To Quantum?

All of my spinning reels are Quantum and have been for 20 years. I like them so much, I just ordered another new Smoke. Never have had any problems with them.

Re: Changing hooks on a suspending jerk?

I broke a hook on a LC Pointer and replaced the hook with a long shank instead of a short shank. The bait was no longer a suspending bait.

Re: Fireline Casting Distance ?

I use 6 and 8lb Fireline on all my spinning reels, you will be very happy with its casting distance. I tried 10 pound Fireline and there was a notable reduction in casting distance over the 6 or 8. It is a little stiff when it is new, but gets much softer within a few hours of use.

Re: cranking ank jerking with braid

I do it all the time with 10lb test on a spinning reel and never use a leader. Using braid means all the action you give the bait transfers to the bait and is not absorbed by the stretchiness of the line.

Re: This or that. Toon vs. yak - help!

I've been using a 'toon for about 10 years. Nothing is more stable, or more comfortable. I use the seat from my Ranger on my pontoon. I use mine mainly on rivers where the current moves me. I have a trolling motor but because it sits almost directly behind the seat, it is awkward to control. Am arm ...

Re: Light braid for casting?

Lighter braids won't dig in if you don't set your drag too tight. If you snag, don't pull the line straight from the spool. Lighter lines cast much farther and let your lures run deeper.

Either one of those will work. The bigger screen will give you a bit more history in case you aren't staring at the screen 100% of the time.

Re: Lake trout fishing

Depending on water temperature, lake trout can be found in 6 feet of water or well over 100 feet. Without a depth finder, you'll spend a lot of time fishing where they ain't. Just after ice out you'll find them scattered in shallower waters. By mid summer, they will be in the deeper water. How deep ...

Re: Fluro, braid, steel leader??

You'd have to use very heavy fluoro to keep even small pike from biting you off. I use some 20 pound test coated wire that you can tie knots in for making light leaders for pike fishing. American fishing Wire is one brand and Tyger Wire is another. It is easy to kink the wire so it takes some practi...

Re: Feelings About Senkos

Pinch down the barbs on the hooks you use for senkos and they'll come out without doing much, if any, damage. You won't lose any fish without the barbs.

Re: When Braid Has Clear Advantage Over Fluorocarbon ?

X2 - although I am trying several floro lines again this year, none have yet to match the sensitivity of braid. Although many fish braid with no leader, I still prefer a floro leader. I read a study where bass could discriminate between 8 lb mono of different colors, sorta convinced me that a floro...

Re: Creek Smallies

The best way to get the biggest smallies in creeks is to target them in early spring and in the fall. Summer time is a good time to catch smallmouth but the big girls are usually tougher to find. The big fish will use deeper pools but not for feeding. If you want to catch them, there needs to be fas...

Re: Quantum Smoke PTi Users

No experience with the Smoke series. But I have owned the previous flagship PTI A and PTI B tour spinning reels (the oil slick ones). These were supposed to be the best of spinners with magnetic bail trips, line management etc. Two had the anti reverse bearings fail after 2 years. Line lay was terr...

Re: When Braid Has Clear Advantage Over Fluorocarbon ?

I think braid has the advantage 100% of the time. I won't use lines that stretch. And, I never use a leader except steel leaders for pike and musky.
