What is the diameter difference?
Domestic: 8lb test > 0.17 diameter (mm)

Australia: 8lb test > 0.12 diameter (mm)

Fireline Ultra 8 line diameter?

I was thinking of picking up a spool of 8 lb. test (orange or flame green) from across the pond until I realized the big difference in line diameter. Why such a difference from USDM? Also, why aren’t those line colors available here?

Re: Daiwa SS SV103 SH/L ?

Thanks for the feedback. However, I find that interesting because the Steez reels I tried at the time definitely felt wider to me. Perhaps the reels were mounted on a different type of rod handle giving me that impression. :-k You're not confusing the SS SV103 with the SV103 are you? The SV103 is t...

Daiwa SS SV103 SH/L ?

I recently tried a SS SV103 and fell in love with how it fits my small hand. I never gave this reel much though before now. I know it’s supposed to be a watered down version of a Steez, but which Steez model exactly? I’m asking because I didn’t care for the one or two Steez reels I tried over the ye...

Re: New fireline fused 8 carrier

I want to try the 8 carrier on a baitcaster (TD-Z), but I can't find it anywhere locally. Most of my reels are spooled with 30 lb test Sufix 832 (.29 mm) and J-Braid x8 (.28 mm). I'm seeing different line diameter specs on the Fireline, so I'm not sure which # test will be the most suitable within m...

Re: G-Loomis IMX Pro 852c JWR

Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone feel the 3/8 oz upper range is the limit or can it be exceeded? More importantly, I realize it's labeled as Extra Fast, but I've never used a 2 power Loomis and I fear it might be too soft/whippy, so I would really appreciate some feedback on that. Thanks again.

G-Loomis IMX Pro 852c JWR

I have an opportunity to pick one up at a good price, but I’ve never held one, nor do I have the opportunity to do so in my area. I’m not sure what I would use it for, but I fear it might be too whippy although it’s an Extra-Fast action. I would appreciate any feedback from current owners. Thanks.

Re: Drag slipping in cold weather

Thanks, I'll pick up some brake cleaner and give it a try. Any particular type/brand I should look for?

Re: Drag slipping in cold weather

Interesting. My last thought is that flouro being stout with a relatively hard 'skin' could easily emulate the characteristics of braid especially in freezing temps. Perhaps unspooling one of the reels, apply a layer of tape or other soft material to the spool arbor and then respool as usual ... th...

Re: Drag slipping in cold weather

All drags should slip to a degree, that's what they're designed to do. My questions are does the degree of slip incrementally change in proportion to small increases in drag tension as applied by the drag star ? Can you achieve full (or close to full) lockdown when the drag is at it's maximum setti...

Re: Drag slipping in cold weather

Guys, thanks again for the suggestions, but let me be 100% clear. I have ZERO issues with the A/R bearings. The culprit is the DRAG STACK.

y2k88 wrote:Was the handle turning when your drag was slipping?
No, the handle does not turn. The drag slips as though the drag star was completely backed off.

Re: Drag slipping in cold weather

Guys, I appreciate your responses. The Daiwa SV103’s come equipped with carbon fiber washers which I’ve read can be installed DRY. Are you guys saying they should/must be lubed? If so, wouldn’t the grease be an issue under freezing temperatures? Grease doesnt freeze at the same temp as water, as is...
