Re: Post purple

Yeap, that's a shortfin corvina which is what inspired the alphas mods and rod choice. Tuning options now are lightyears ahead of what they were back then. I may revisit that build. I want a mint 07 shiro hayate, too. Mines still in very good working order, but it shows it's use. Not abused, just no...

Re: Braid to Leader - what's your knot of choice?

Piggy backing off of the line-system thread. Do use the FG Knot and have amalgamated a few approaches for how I do... Braids from 6lb-12lb, fluoro from 6lb-10lb. 13 x pairs of plaits, 5 turn rizutto finish, no hitches. 11 will probably work but for the line brands i use 13 is the least I've gotten i...

Re: What is your primary line setup?

Primarily a shore-bound saltwater bay angler (do fish the surf on occasion). Have refined my line approach to braid to fluoro. Works perfectly fine as there's not a lot of hazardous structure where I am, so I can go extremely light. 6-12lb braid to 6-10lb fluoro (~5' fluoro lead). Largest "fish" lan...

Re: Premium Collapsible/Telescopic Rods?!

A couple of Youtube angling personalities vouch for the Daiwa B.B.B. I've never handled or owned one, but I've been wanting to get the 595TLFS for remote backcountry trout fishing. Discontinued JDM Daiwa telescopic Heartland models show up on Yahoo Japan's auction site occasionally, and look intrig...

Re: Premium Collapsible/Telescopic Rods?!

Thanks, guys. I had seen the Daiwa pack rods (which I'll probably go with) and am eyeing the 615TLS specifically. Fishman Beams has some options depending on how heavy you are looking for: a 4 peice, a telescopic. All premium stuff. https://www.fish-man.com/beamsxpan43lts.html This is intriguing, bu...

Premium Collapsible/Telescopic Rods?!

Oh, boy. Here goes. Is there such thing as a high quality, high performance, collapsible/telescopic fishing rod? I know there are premium multi-piece rods out there but I'm not looking for those. Something along the lines of heavier trout rod, 18" max length, packed. If you know of, I'm interested i...

Re: Daiwa UL7 combo

Is that UL7 from your quiver? If so, is yours made in Thailand just as mine?

The reel foot is ~2 1/8" (L) x ~1/2" (W)

Which model Daiwa UL rods do you use with yours?

Daiwa UL7 combo

I'm sure many remember this reel, but... in the mid 90's you could get this reel with a rod in a blister pack at the Navy Exchange. It was an impressively balanced combo for the price. Anyone remember the rod that used to come with? Or, if you have recommendations on a decent rod with an accommodati...

I dig their storage... bags, boxes, etc. Some of their tools are nice too. Thanks for the heads up.

Very interesting preliminary evaluation. Can't wait to read more.

BTW, you state: 125yds of 15lb/26lb true BS PE. What is this exactly as I can find no reference of such in the "*" link you provided.

Re: Spinning reel recommendation please

You looking for new/used?

Spool/frame size?

<$150 for JDM Daiwa... I think your choices will be very limited.

This. Specifically with casting-friendly brake configuration as opposed to jigging. Which is why a BFS XG plate, non-mg spool, Stephano frame intrigues me. Maybe even a mag-kit/conversion?
