Re: Do you still use Boca Bearings inside your reels?

I've found some nice ceramic hybrids on AliExpress and liked them enough to order more. I have used Boca in years past and felt they were very noisy and not worth the money. The AE bearings I've been getting are much more quiet and they spin very well. Best of all they run less than $2 each. A 10 p...

Re: 3D Printed Knob Removal Wrench

I clean a lot of reels for the guys in my club and after about 60 reels the 3d printed tools do get loose and need replacing. I just print a couple more and I'm back in business. The nice thing about it is I can make any combination of tools in std and metric. If I need a specialty tool I can design...

Re: 3D Printed Knob Removal Wrench

Does that have two flat spots on the nut? If so have your friend make a full round with two flats, also called a double "D". This will make it easier especially if you have a 1/4" drive on the end. I made something similar, see pics enclosed. Mine is for a hex but you can incorporate yours in this d...

Spinning Reel Cleaning

For those of you guys that clean your spinning reels. What is your process. I am more interested about what do you do to your bearings inside the reel. Do you clean inside of the body completely? If you do, do you oil or grease your frame bearings and what about any other bearings. The gears and the...

Re: Custom Reel Painting

I have painted three low profile reels. Two for friends and one for myself. It is time consuming because of all the tape work required and you have to take care to ensure part fitment of the pieces that attach to the frame. Typically a good quality clear coat will be thicker than the actual paint u...

Re: Custom Reel Painting

So I air brushed some reels for some friends, and I can see why there aren't many guys doing this. It is very labor intensive. You have to break the reel down to its shell, clean thoroughly, lightly sand and then tape, paint and clearcoat. That is providing the reel is in good condition. I've seen r...

Re: Ceramic Bearings from AliExpress?

Are you guys replacing all the bearings in one reel or are you just replacing the spool bearing?

Re: Jackson Super trickster 64L

Sounds like a normal bass BFS rod. I would use 1/16 to 1/8 oz jigs on it and weightless plastics or lightly weighted small plastics. This kind of stuff. https://youtu.be/4TAEVhNk-LE Thanks, that's what I thought. I do use 1/8 and 1/16 oz jigs with a trailer however I can cast those with my G Loomis...

Re: Jackson Super trickster 64L

I haven't seen much on this rod in a while but, I remember people using it for general finesse bass fishing. Small plastics, neds and such. Thanks for the info. He did say that he used it for Ned rigs. So I mainly throw 1/4 oz and smaller jigs on 10 lb line, however with a trailer it ends up being ...

Jackson Super trickster 64L

Anyone here can give me some info about this rod? What would be its best use and how much would a used one go for. Thanks in advance.

Re: lube port

I am an ABU fan and all my reels have them. However I never use them. I just clean all my reels thoroughly once a year. I do occasionally add a drop of rocket fuel oil to my spool bearing once I hear it start to make noise.

Re: A source for 4x7x2.5mm bearings?

Wow, that's crazy! Knob bearings I just installed, I didn't flush them or anything, as long as they felt smooth before installation. The metal shields bearings I've gotten from them in the past have all had removable shields. The rubber shields on the Revolutions were also removable. I still have s...

Re: A source for 4x7x2.5mm bearings?

Ted, could you add a link to BOCA? The one I have doesn't work. Mark, I'm not sure if you wanted a link to Boca or Smooth drag, so I gave you both. https://www.smoothdrag.com/wp/ https://www.bocabearings.com/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAic6eBhCoARIsANlox844llIaXMxKrBhgEWR_8LGEg7ImTRXO1M2wPovmvP80nH_jp5SGyoEaAuqR...

I don't use Boca bearings anymore. I use either Hedge Hog or bearings from Smooth Drag
