The Japanese lines conform to specified line diameters for most of their products. So they will get more yards/meters of the JDM and Sunline USA lines on the reel spools when compared to US line diameters.

Yes, I tie small diameter knots with braid and fluoro, but fluoro and fluoro produces larger knots that are a hindrance in 1-2 ft of clear water.

I assume it has worked at least one time well since you received the reel. If so, suggest you flush or replace the spool bearings and clean the inside of the pinion gear to get added distance. Sounds like a problem involving the pawl or worm shaft. Gravity assists when the handle side is down.
