Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

Just got my Metanium handle and spacer from TTT today. Put it together and it fits great. The drag star just clears the handle and works perfectly. I can't say I'm a fan of the plastic handle nut retainers that Shimano uses now, but I can live with that I suppose. The handle color isn't a great matc...

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

i tried some of those handles (Chronarch/Metanium) but ended up with straight ones on my Core and Alde mgs. for some reason it rubbed the drag but i have heard others having success! if you decide to drop a little more into it that reel, check out the 7.7:1 brass gears if you havent already. http:/...

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

Yea I'm definitely not a fan of what Shimano has been doing with their handle nut retainers, but I don't own any newer Shimanos so I really can't complain. Thanks for doing all the leg work for me.

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

One more question...

Will the stock Core 51Mg handle nut and retaining washer work or will I need to purchase any other parts?

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

The 96mm handle does fit, but barely touches the drag star. Star is still fully adjustable, and doesn't cause any issues. I could see it scratching the paint on the drag star eventually after a lot of use, but mine hasn't scratched at all with the 84mm handle. That's great to hear. I swear I saw so...

JBcrankaddict wrote:Yes, Chronarch handle is 96mm as well, and would definitely look better. Just got home but I'll try one out in a few and report back.

Awesome. Thanks.

Re: Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

I put the handle off one my Chronarch CI4 on a Curado 51e with Core star, and the tips of the star do hit the handle, but drag is still fully functional. Hasnt scratched the star or handle at all, but I don't normally adjust my drag a whole lot once fishing. I believe the Metanium handle will fit w...

Core 51Mg7 Handle Upgrade

I just pulled out my old Core 51Mg7 that I was considering selling, but I have decided to keep. However, I'm used to 90mm handles and the smaller 80mm handle isn't working for me. I was going to just pick up a Core 100Mg7 handle from TTT, but wondering what other handles would work? Will any of the ...

Re: Power finesse rod

I think at this point I have it narrowed down to the Dobyns HP 742C or the Loomis IMX Pro 892. I would love to hear more opinions on the IMX Pro JWR series.

I'm more interested in the 892 Loomis offerings as I prefer longer rods. The IMX Pro falls more in my price range which is why I'm most interested in that rod.

Usually the weight of the jig head. I might go slightly lower than that, but realistically the total weight of the presentation will be over 1/8oz.

Re: Power finesse rod

I can't compare the IMX Pro to the Dobyns HP but I can compare it to the old Extreme. When you look at sensitivity the IMX Pro is head and shoulders better than the old Champion Extreme, it isn't close. Now I'm not sure how the new Dobyns HP series perform in terms of sensitivity but I'd be willing...

Re: Power finesse rod

It may be a little short at 7'1" but I think it fits your needs. G.Loomis IMX Pro 852C JWR, it is an extra fast action and works great for shaky heads and smaller finesse jigs and Neko rigs, it might be worth your time to check one out. I was actually looking at the IMX Pro 892C JWR. It seems ...

Re: Power finesse rod

I will be searching for this same rod one day. Currently I use a TFO Dropshot rod, 6'9"ML rated 1/8 to 1/2 but it is a bit soft and short. I think the 742C would fit mine and your bill perfect. Dobyn's MH feels more like the Mediums I am used to. Phenix makes some finesse casting rods, but the...
