Re: The one combo you can't live without If you could only k
OK, it turns out despite having lots and lots of other combos, it would be a very easy choice for me were I to only be allowed one combo. Even though I have other combos that are "JDM" or cost three or four times what this one did, it turns out this one is the most perfect rod and reel I have ever ...

Re: Zeta Rod?!!
I like Dobyns rods and most of my tackle store brought rods are Dobyns DX's. But at $500'ish for these Dobyns Zayta's, although very good looking and probably a well made rod, is my own personal limit on how much I am willing to pay for a non-custom made rod. If Dobyns offers a trade in program wher...

Re: Cumara Reaction question
Thanks guys. I think I will probably change directions on my thoughts and start looking closer at a Dobyns. I really wanted a Cumara.... What about the 7'7" Cumara Reaction Medium???? The 7'7 is a pretty stout rod for its ratings to me anyways. It feels more like a rod rated for like 3/8oz to 1oz. ...

Re: Cumara Reaction question
It depends on how low of a lure weight you plan on throwing. I have thrown 3" senkos on it and it worked pretty well. It is a pretty whippy rod though. In my opinion, the Cumara 6'8 med fast out of my Cumara arsenal is the more well rounded choice for finesse light rig

Re: Curado 50 E
It pitches great. But for me personally I would prefer a higher IPT. I mostly use the Curado 51E for small shallow cranks. If IPT isn't an issue for you then it will work for you.

Re: Legend Elite uses
I have the 7' Med Fast Legend Xtreme which is the same blank as the Legend Elites just with different guides, i.e. recoil vs SiC. I use mine for tubes mostly but also works well for small plastics though I usually opt for a casting set up for small plastics but it works in a pinch.

Another beauty of a rod by Matt. Congrats on the fish. Nothing like breaking in a long awaited custom built rod with a hog.

Re: Rod of the Year 2011
Manufactured rods: Dobyns DX744 casting
Custom: Mattman Otterods NFC custom 7'6 line rating 12-20 lbs and lure rating 3/8oz to 1 1/8oz.
Both rods are extremely versatile for plastics, jigs, and spinnerbaits for me this year.

Re: St Croix LTB
I would go Med Heavy Fast for the 1/2oz spinnerbaits. With the 3/8oz spinnerbaits, you can opt for the Med Fast though Med Heavy will work as well. For vegetation, I would probably go with the med heavy fast. The St. Croix's are a little more powerful than their rating.

Re: Steez vs core 50
I own more than one of both. I like the feel of the Steez better but it does also cost significantly more than the Core. The Steez does not feel as "hollow" as the Core. But, for the most part, the Core performs just as well as the Steez - in my opinion anyways.

Re: HAVE YOU SEEN THE PRICE?
Personally I think it's a pretty kick ass lookin reel. :big grin: And if it preforms, what's a complain about? That's what you get when a company doesn't shift make there reels cheap in some crap hole country (pretty much anywhere but America and some places in Europe ). I'd feel great paying every...
