Re: Tatula 100HS Review

Here's my take on the whole "casting distance" hype. How far do we really cast? Most casts are made anywhere between 15-30yds (average). Damn near every reel can do that. Now, how much do you want to pay for something is the real question that should be asked. Of course, this question is ...

Re: Daiwa Sol

I only have one aftermarket spool for one sol, a megabass honeycomb but it's green...not a good look.. Don't feel like looking for it now, but I have a Presso spool in one of my Sols. I believe it is a darker orange-ish color. You would need spacers to use it, tho. Took a quick look, but don't reme...

Re: Young educated thumbs

The young learn much easier and quicker. Us oldies that picked up our first baitcast reel in our 60s will most likely never be as good as a teenager that is truly interested in learning how to use a baitcast reel. I'm glad to hear there are still some youngsters willing to put their electronic toys ...

Re: Son's new Daiwa Tierras

I would start another thread on a replacement spool for the reel. Quite a few guys on here will be able to answer with options....if there are any....which I feel there probably is. However, I am not one of them that can give you an answer. Glad your son is into fishing. Makes for many memorable tim...

Maybe I shouldn't count one of my Sols. It has a Presso spool.

Re: Alphas R Question

Can't be of any help as I don't mess with my reels. If you don't get it solved through replies to this thread, consider sending it to Ian Shields. If he can't fix it, then it is time to junk the reel.

Very nice, Staten Island. Somewhat partial to the Alphas platform myself. I'm pretty sure my collection is limited to six...2 Sols, 2 Purple Alphas, 1 Alphas F, 1 ito Ai, and 1 Alphas SV105. Oops...7.

Re: Which reel for a 1/2oz swim jig + 5" swing impact fat trailer?

OG Zillion. ;) Yeah, but aren't they too heavy for today's fishermen? My 50th Anniversary is one of my favorite reels. However, it is a wonder I can still cast with it given its weight and my age. :laugh1: Sorry. Couldn't help myself. It seems if a reel weighs more than 6 oz. anymore it is co...

Didn't know you needed a special reel for that. Are you sure it isn't just a desire to buy another reel? :big grin:

Re: Daiwa spool tension problem

Don't know if it could be the same problem, but I received a new T3 1016 that I couldn't tighten up spool tension with out of the box. A fellow member had the same problem and fixed his by taking off the cap and removing the plastic part under it, then putting it back together. Said he had to do it ...

Re: How to walk a frog and what frog walks the best?

Almost 4 years ago now... I figured it out that summer. Cabin Fever gets lots of old threads brought to the top. At least this is good information at any time. The threads asking about rods or reels no longer in production....that get brought to the top years later....doesn't do much go...

Re: Spool to increase Zillion PE distance?

I've had the material for spacers sitting under my desk for months. No idea when I will get to run some more off. Have a reel sitting at home that needs that size spacers before I can use it. Had the reel/spool about a year. Having a lathe open up at the right time used to be the major problem. Now ...

Spool to increase Zillion PE distance?

Purchased a used Zillion PE several years ago. Took it out a couple times and it hasn't been out since. Was quite disappointed in the casting distance I achieved with it. Just picked up a nice MHF 2-piece trunk rod. (Thanks, Adam.) Want to use the PE on it. Still not thrilled with casting distance. ...

Re: What do you daiwa guys use to bomb lures?

Helios Air, Concept A, Primmus. My 50th Anniversary Zillion does a pretty good job on the right rod. 3/4 oz. spinnerbait, 12# Elite and 7'6" HF Zillion gets some pretty good distances. Gen 1 STX has made what are probably my longest casts to date, but that was throwing a 3/4 oz. spoon in tidal...
