Re: Fast Gears for Spinning Reels

Note that one can not directly compare ratios between baitcasters and spinning reels. Most spinning reels will pull in more inches per turn than baitcasters with similar ratios because the spool diameter is larger. While 4.8:1 sounds pretty low those Daiwas typically pull about as much line as a 'st...

Re: Biggest Fish You've Caught on UL Tackle

One of the local park lakes is stocked with panfish and channel catfish for the kiddies to enjoy. I was trying for some of the bull bluegill and managed a 15" cat. No scale so weight will be a mystery. This was on my PS60ULF2 and a Sedona 500 with 4# P-Line Fluoroclear. It didn't so much fight as ju...

Re: The Search fpr the Best Ultra-Lite Spinning Reel

UL? I use a Shimano 500 sized reel. All your Pfluegers are piles of cement by comparison. 2lb test and a long-ish rod and I can cast as far as I'd wish. Too small? Has plenty of guts for the dinner plate crappies, ornery rock bass, and creek smallies. The only downside is the best model available is...

1Rod 1Lure at a time.

Basically a slogan against the use of multi bait rigs in tournament bass fishing.
I can see that. I am not a fan of the idea of such rigs myself, either.

Re: So who's used these new shimano rods?

You are probably right, a model made for multiple techniques as compared to a technique specific are going to feel different and there are a lot that won't like it. I guess if they used a better blank and kept the actions the same you would notice a difference and it would probably be better for th...

Re: So who's used these new shimano rods?

Here is a follow-up to my above post: I recently picked up (thank you Santa and your magic gift-card wallet) the Clarus 6'10" MH spinnerbait rod. This is the blank material, apparently, that used to be my Compre, before it was replaced as described above. Same color but regular alu-ox guides instead...

Re: ipt - 26 vs 29 real world difference...

I'd say the real world difference is minimal. You will not notice the approximately 10% difference in maximum lure speed and once you are tuned it to using either you can make the lure go whatever speed you want just as easily. If the faster gearing was at like 36 IPT and you spend all day zipping a...

Re: Record vs Cardiff

x1 for the Cardiff! I find it reels more smoothly and feels more sturdy than the Record. In my opinionated opinion the Cardiff feels like a real modern reel and the Record is my grandfather's reel. I should say my grandfather's, his bothers, and my uncle. (Norskis like Abu reels) I know mine is cont...

Re: Another NRX QC issue

I am saddened by all this. I almost feel guilty about liking my Compres and Claruses (Clari ?) so much. It reminds me how I feel about my Trek bikes and the guys the company stands behind versus the guys they've forced out. Love the product question the company. Makes you wonder how Shimano-brand ro...

Re: cheap spinning reel

My favorite inexpensive reel was the older Exceler (not the new TSH or HA, prior to that). You might find one at an online auction for $50. Barring that, any of the Shimanos from the $30 Sienna to the $60 Sedona are good bets. They get a little nicer as you go up each $10 and Shimano's 1000 size ahs...

Re: Rod Help

There is an extraordinary tidal force that especially effects TT members. It would be fascinating to have access to all the old forum data (sadly lost) and to track post counts for rod manufactures as their popularity ebbs and flows. How many Dobyns guys sold all their Loomis stuff a few years back ...

Re: Stradic Ci4 3000 - Bail Trip Problem

I am not trying to say whether he is doing it right or wrong. I was trying to help by pointing out that of the major top reel producers only Pflueger seems to spend time improving this capability of a reel. Shimano want you to close it by hand, so if you buy a Shimano reel it will not be as slick to...

Re: Stradic Ci4 3000 - Bail Trip Problem

I feel your pain but bear in mind the reel is not actually malfunctioning at all. Like has been said it was not designed to do what you want it to do. It is tough to swallow considereing what you've spent but it is the truth. Sort of like being upset that a new sports car, as a high-performance vehi...

Re: Stradic Ci4 3000 - Bail Trip Problem

I understand your expectations were high with this reel. At the same time Shimano's priorities for making it the best reel for the money did not have the bail trip high on the list, most likely because like the above post said, it is considered better to return it manually. Not wanting to hurt your ...
