Re: St croix L elite 7' mlf
I have two of them and one always has a drop shot rigged on it. It took me a while to get a good feel for it though so more time in with it in your hands should help with hook sets. Great rods though.

Re: When did we agree to spend so much?
For me it's when I went to work at Gander in '94. I met Jeff Schlueter from St. Croix and he loaned me his 7'ml legend with a stradic and a 6'6"m legend casting with a calcutta 100. I went from a Shimano ax2000 with whatever cheap rod I could find to that and never looked back. Now I have a locker f...

Re: St Croix legend Elite
X2 on blank color? If its a brown blank, I didn't like that handle on those, personally. I have three of the earlier 7' mh green blanks and love them. I use them for up to 1/2 oz jigs, texas rigged plastics, and 1/2oz spinnerbaits.

Re: a hypothetical question
If you haven't seen pics of it, It says it on a little label epoxied onto the blank so i don't know how hard that is to take off.
Re: Backpacks
The willian joseph packs matt mentioned are great. I do a lot of wading and I have a Fish Pond that I've used for years. They are a little more geared towards fly fisherman but I have no complaints about them.

Re: Actual Price of Rods Built Over Seas
Everything we buy is marked up but not everything is marked up 40-50% like in "THIS" industry. If you think a rod is worthy of being marked up 40-50% then kudos to you. I don't think it is but that's just me. If I was in the industry of ripping people off, believe me the fishing industry is where i...

Re: Actual Price of Rods Built Over Seas
I worked for Gander for a number of years so I can't speak for the major manufacturers, but the mark up on Gander's rods, which are all made over seas, was 40-50%. But they are buying blanks and components from a separate source and not making as many rods as actual rods companies who are buying in ...

Re: Fishing show host Jose Wejebe killed in plane crash
I was fortunate enough to cross paths with Jose a few times and he was one of the nicest guys I've met in the fishing industry. I saw him interact with other fisherman in the keys and he was always quick to give pointers or advice to someone that might not have been catching fish. I saw him on a few...

Re: floggin' smallies
I just caught Mark Zonas fishing show where he was using this while fishing in MI with Byron Velvick and it was really something to see. Both those guys wanted to use the cone more than they wanted to fish just because they were more entertained by watching 4-6lb smallies in 15-20' of water go crazy...

Re: Legend Elites - Help me decide?
I've used it for jigworms, light tubes (1/8 and 3/32), swimming grubs, and have fished a drop shot on it. IMO it's a little fast for the drop shot but having never caught a fish on that rig, I'm not the best person to comment on that. But I fished this rod a lot this year and love it. I've fished a ...

Re: Legend Elites - Help me decide?
I have the 7'6"MXF Elite that I bought specifically for shakey head style fishing on lake michigan where, for me, it's a deeper water presentation (15'+). I really like it for that because I think in that deeper water, you can manipulate the bait better that you can on the 7', which I also own, and ...

Re: Post Your weirdest catch ever
Not my catch but I watched a guy fight a 5 gallon bucket full of sand for about 30 minutes. He was fishing the mississippi river for catfish and hooked it by the handle. Everytime he got it close to the bank the current would drag it back out so he didn't have any idea what it was. He finally got it...

Re: Favorite FLUKE
I'm a big fan of the Lake Fork Magic Shads when it's windy but some of them are jacked up coming out of the bag and spin on the retrieve. But flukes or fluke jr.'s any other time. There's a river by me that I fish quite a bit and when the bite is on, you can catch a ton of 14"-18" smallies on fluke ...
