Curious for input from you and others...does the 894 have the same level of stiffness as the 893?

Re: Hook set in a yak

Braid will help. I don't like mono or flouro much anyways but I think you need the line stretch even less in a yak. Don't know if you have premature hook set going...once it gets in my head I have to unwinds it a little. More traditional hook shapes like you find with the Owner CPS and o'shaughnessy...

Re: Why are reels like golf clubs???

If you break one, your reaction after the initial anger is "whoo! time for upgrade!" Both take five or six hours to do, and don't involve women. Both are obscenely expensive and only explainable to women in either purse or shoe equivalents. Both often involve clothing that won't help you get lucky i...

Re: Your favorite finesse hardbait!

Pin's minnow is a great for sure!

I really like the rapala UL series. The ultra light minnow in particular. It's really cast-able and the sink rate is almost painful slow. Really productive and fun.

Re: No more Lifetime Warranty- Shimano Rods

It does not matter if they "set the expectation" historically. Yes, it does. Maybe not to you, but it is the manufacturers that set this expectation level, not the buyers. Our drunk high sticking buddies have changed the world as much as the manufacturers have. I don't have any such buddies. And th...

Re: No more Lifetime Warranty- Shimano Rods

So send bantam lots of PMs about why a stateside expride is ridic expensive when the warranty exposure has been effectively eliminated. Start there, he loves those. You can send me PM's and I will respond to your questions and concerns. I am not in a position to make changes to our policy. I ...

Re: Question: Finesse casting vs pitching

Well said. I bought, but have not yet put line on, that Yumeya spool. I have wondered what kind of stress it could take. I'm considering 12 lb. SX1 braid, which breaks at around 14 lbs. with a good knot. Do you think the spool would deform at the 50E's maximum (10 lbs.) drag? I have two Yumeya spoo...

Re: Question: Finesse casting vs pitching

Before you spend any money at all, think about how light you will ever throw, realistically. A 1/16 oz jig head is not 1/16 oz once a lure is on. And then that 1/16 oz lure becomes 1/12 oz or more pretty quickly with the lure on before it gets wet and then heavier. And using that kind of lure usuall...

Re: No more Lifetime Warranty- Shimano Rods

People who have an issue with this have a great way to complain, seriously...whine about making Shimano lower prices now that they are effectively cheaper for Shimano to sell, and stay away from any brand advertising lifetime warranties. Because you are paying for them to proudly claim that, and you...

Re: Daiwa Sol 6.8:1 gearing conversion question

Off-topic, but man do I hate "Diawa nose" when that finish rubs off. No idea why they didn't put a coating of some type on those Pixies, Sols, etc. Put a reel cover on that thing and wait for the rub to begin. Sigh.

Re: Taking the plunge: 1st time NRX buyer

Thanks for the advice. The Hookuptackle is where I'd be purchasing from, was trying to keep in in the $350 range of the rep model scale. I couldnt tell you where sells one in so.fla to hold or test. Ive only seen up to the GLX locally. Ill call them tomorrow and get some input and watch my account ...

Re: Taking the plunge: 1st time NRX buyer

The 854 is a lot of fun and has a lot of power. The 893s are very popular here on the forums but I was in the minority...ended up not liking it much. Too stiff for me. In general the XF NRXs are hit or miss for me. (Didn't like the 803 either, but like the 852 quite a bit). If you are fishing much u...

Re: Braid on Casting Reels

One thing I do with all my reels ( baitcaster or spinning) when I spool up braid is to hose them down with Reel Magic....I mean dripping. I also give them a good shot of it after every fishing trip. It helped to cut down on the issue for me the few times I have had it happen. I found it happened to...

Re: Rods down to land fish

I often hand line to at least get the fish's head up out of the water , usually a coordinated action with keeping the rod taut until I know I have a grip on the fish (assuming this is what most people do?). I guess I hand line smaller ones. I kind of make it up as I go along when I drop shot, becaus...
