Sand it put some Naval Jelly on it made by loctite (I am pretty sure) then a good oil based rust control paint. ie ruetoleum. And I have 27 years in the paint business FYI.

I use 1oz spinnerbaits all the time in the summer night fishing, but like smalljaw said with a 1oz I am fishing 15 ft plus. You could use a 1oz for 8 to 10 ft. But I would be burning them if I were using them that shallow.

Try the Owner 5304 deep throat, Great jig hooks. You will have to get somebody to make them for you or make them yourself. But I have never had any problems with that hook.
