Re: Enthusiast 5'6'' casting rod?
Megabass F2-54x4 Barchetta 1/8 to 1/2 oz This was part of their Orochi X4 lineup, but produced only for the JDM market on a limited basis. It was a nice little fast action casting rod, designed especially for float tube fishing. I believe Samurai Tackle still has one in stock. Megabass does produce ...

Re: What reel for a Megabass Jade Python SB?
The Opus-1 (either version - original or Nero) will also pair up nicely with the Jade Python.

Re: Ryoga SV1016
$707 USD? I'm sure it's a great reel, but that colour scheme and handle make it look like a cheap ABU C3 or one of their even cheaper versions! The old siver ones looked the part, the LIN reels really look the part, but for $700 they really need to try a bit harder! I'm pretty sure that's S...

Re: Megabass vs steez vs opus spinning reel?
I'd go with the Opus-1 or the Opus-1 Nero. Not light, but solid, balanced and precise. I've used mine in fresh and saltwater with no issues. I did have the misfortune of needing to order replacement parts for one when the roller assembly came apart on me, but Plat was able to source them for me quic...

Bass City up in Markham is also worth a look.
I wouldn't bother with JB if you're looking for enthusiast & import stuff.

Re: JAWS moment
I recently had a similar experience - but in my case it was a 4lb channel catfish.
Those "Oh sh!t" moments are what makes ultralight fishing so much fun.

Re: ABU GARCIA CARDINAL 3R
Actually, I suspect that it's made in Japan, but they chose to use the original Swedish molds because of its replica status. Note that there is no serial number stamp on the foot. DS = DaySprout.

Re: Jdm rod search help
If you look around, you may still come across rods from the limited edition Megabass Huayra series that came out last year. There was one spinning and one casting model. Both featured full-length cork handles.

Re: Set ups and fish captured thread
Really enjoying the pics - weirpools, fat chub and JDM gear! I'm going to dig up some pics and post them - curious about the Megabass 4 piece - what model is that? Looks like an Air Bamboo but no such variant listed on MB site. It's one of the Benten spinning rods from the Megabass Ippukan line of ...

Re: Misc Past UL Reels
I saw one listed on ebay aways back...can't remember who remade it though, ABU or someone else. I believe that Daysprout commissions ABU to make these limited run (1000 piece) reproductions of Cardinal 3/33 reels: http://daysprout-fishing.jp/page2/ds-cardinal/ There is also quite an aftermarket -- ...

Re: 2015 MB Shoreluck Limited
Guides are stainless steel framed SiC. They are the typical reduced-size guides that Megabass and other JDM brands like to use these days. It does just fine with 10lb braid (I use Sufix 832 w/ a long 12-15ft leader of 8lb Tatsu). I can't comment too much about it's ability to handle stripers since I...

Re: 2015 MB Shoreluck Limited
I received my SLL-76LS back around June/July. Just to be clear, unlike many Shoreluck rods of the past, this is not an UL rod. I got it because I wanted an extremely versatile 2-piece spinning rod for days where I'm wading rivers in unpredictable conditions and species -- and that's exactly what it ...

Re: Tenkara
None of my tenkara rods (all purchased new, all high end) came with a hard case -- only a sock or sleeve. I honestly think they're not necessary because when all the sections are nested, that equates to multiple layers of protection for the most delicate parts (e.g. the tip). That said, there's noth...

Re: Tenkara
I don't use anything when I'm on an outing - but where I go, the bushwhacking is far from extreme, and I generally don't bring more than one rod with me. With all the sections stored in the handle, it's a pretty stout package so as long as I'm mindful, the risk to my equipment is minimal. My tamo (n...
