Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

First topwater Red of the year for me. It was 72 degrees yesterday right before the front blew in with a vengeance. Red d 02 07 19.jpg Weather has definitely been nice when you are throwing topwater in Jan/Feb! Nice work JD! Thanks Jeff! I had caught 15 Reds bouncing a Hackberry Hustler off the bot...

The 842 for pointers, and the 782 I use for topwaters.

Re: G. Loomis MBR 842 GLX

Finally, is it a significantly different rod than its cousin, the MBR 782 GLX? Thanks I own multiples of both the classic GLX MBR 842 and 782 and they are significantly different in my hand. 842 is faster in action and about a 1/2 power greater than the 782. Both excellent rods, and two I will neve...

Re: Rod for Bantam (MH)

Based on your applications, I'd be looking at the 7'MH or 7'H. I use a 7'MH and the 6'9"M. I use these for very specific inshore applications. I've caught Redfish in the 25-35lb. class range on the 7'MH and it handled them no problem. I'm not dealing with any real cover or depth where I'm using thes...

Re: Rod for Bantam (MH)

Check out Hammer Rods. I own many high end rods (Customs built on NFC HM blanks, Megabass, GLX and NRX) and my Hammer rods hold their own in my rotation.

Talk to Gary at The Tackle Trap, and he will help you out.

Re: Chronarch 50E or Curado K?

I used to own a slew of Curado/Chronarch 51s, Core 51s and 09 Aldebarans. All great reels for the time, but in my opinion those reels have all been surpassed by the 15 Aldebaran, Curado 70 and the Curado 200k. I'm on the water at least twice a week every week throughout the year and have put in a lo...

Re: Have you ever broke the plastic gearing of the worm gear?

The only reel I have ever broken the plastic idle gear (part 2154) on was a Shimano Core 51MG7. Had a mid slot sized Redfish on and noticed line was bunching up to one side. Heard some terrible crunching noise and had to do some tricky hand-lining to bring it to the boat. BTW, that reel has a metal ...

Re: North Fork Composites BFS rod

Here is some data I've accumulated over the years from Matt Davis: NFC MB661 IM, Power 202g RDA 62 NFC MB662 HM, Power 227g RDA 62 NFC MB663 HM, Power 263g RDA 62 St. Croix 5S66MLF, Power 258g RDA 70 I own and fish all but the MB661. As you can see from the numbers, there is a slight bump in power i...

Re: North Fork Composites BFS rod

Hogsticker is giving you some great advice. I own several customs built on NFC HM blanks and have extensive time on the MB662 HM. It's ratings are off in my opinion. I fish bottom contact, low resistance, baits up to 3/8 ounce total weight and fish topwaters to 1/2 ounce on that rod. I have landed s...

Re: Zillon SV TW; Cannot get it reassembled correctly

Sounds like the roller clutch bearing in the side plate is in backwards. Pop it out, flip it over and reinstall it. You should be good to go then.
