Re: Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2

Agreed, I wouldn't touch any of those cheap Chinese reels, I don't have the same confidence they would be as good as the rods. Zero confidence in fact. I got $45 invested in a Tsurinoya XF 50 reel. It's toyish without a doubt, but the tinkerer in me likes a challenge ... it casts just a tad beyond ...

Re: Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2

Uncanny timing for this thread as I just got back from fishing my new Kuying Teton 6'6" L casting rod for the first time. Here's a link to my earlier thread about it over in the rods section - http://www.tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=79755 Unfortunately the fish were non existent for ...

I agree. Modern ferrules are nothing like the clunky metal monstrosities of decades ago. I've yet to have any of my 2 piece rods become misaligned, separate, or come apart (unless I wanted it apart)

Another vote for the River Runner. Fantastic rod that handles both plastics and hard baits very well.

Re: Stella's smooth but tight after platinum service?

Any grease beyond a thin coating accomplishes nothing, the excess is squeezed out of the gear teeth and other contact areas after the first full revolution. It's not a wheel bearing.

Re: Let's talk UL crankbaits ...

I find that treble hook removal from the Baby Pop X is a major pia and I am using the small Texas Tackle split ring tool so I can imagine how difficult the Bitsy Minnow would be. It seems like I bend out of shape all of the split rings. I have seen a JDM split ring tool that IIRC, looks like tweeze...

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!

A few more from yesterday. I just recently got serious with billed crankbaits, I've been a huge fan of lipless for years but never spent the time to properly learn lipped ones, particularly shallow squarebills. Yesterday I actually threw them where they were intended to be thrown - into laydowns and...

Daiwa Tournament SS700 upgrades/supertune

This is a reprint of sorts of a tutorial posted back in 2009 on a fishing site known as "FishingKaki.com" ... I take NO credit whatsoever for any of the following content, it doesn't come up on search engines anymore but the pieces are scattered. The photos that were part of the original p...

Re: Daiwa Tournament SS Reel

Did you guys feel that the worm gear bushing replacement with a bearing increased performance much in this reel? Not at all ... it's there to keep the back end of the worm shaft supported and aligned. The only improvement the bearing provides is a more sturdy platform in which to do this vs the fac...

I'm waiting on the casting version of this rod as we speak ... Kuying Teton 662L. I'll follow up on this thread after I get it.

The fall feedbag was on this weekend here ... yesterday & today were really good days in spite of today's blowing wind and being 15* colder than yesterday. The humble $4.00 Bomber Square A crank was the top producer both days. https://i.postimg.cc/fypcPH39/IMG-0180.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/PfYm...

Re: UL Reel Spool's "LIP" - Shimano vs Daiwa

A coat of car wax on the line contact area of the lip will reduce friction even further. We're not talking huge gains here, but every little bit helps.
