Re: USDM 500-size reels

I saw at my local tackle show that for 2018 shimano USA is introducing 500 size Nasci and Sarahas I believe. having said that, a 1000 Size Stradic Ci4+ should be light enough for just about any UL size rod no? and you would get the benefits of a 1000 size spool (casts better than a 500 size) I am p...

Re: What new baits will you be tying on this year ?

Last year I discovered blade baits. I had a very good season with Johnson ThinFisher baits in 3/16, 1/14 and 1/2 chasing bass. Late in the season I found these Reef Runner Cicadas and grabbed a few with the intention of using them for UL. I never got a chance to throw them yet but they look promisi...

Re: What new baits will you be tying on this year ?

I'm gonna run a Picasso JR A-rig with some small swimbaits rigged weedless. Watched a guy on the river kill it last year with a weedless A-rig, little hooks but light drag (still strong line) works well. Also been using my version of a "Tiny Ika", take a Hula Grub's tails off and rig the ...

Re: USDM 500-size reels

Can't you put together a GLoomis SJR 720 IMX with a Shimano Soare 500S and keep it under $500? That would be a pretty sweet combo IMO. That would be a nice outfit, the SJR 720 is a hoss. Has a very fast tip and will control larger fish. I fished one for a few years with a Stradic 1000. My all time ...

Re: USDM 500-size reels

I have a couple of Stradic 1000 CI4'sand I love them. You can get a smaller framed Shimano reel with the Sahara 500FE but it weights 6.2oz. The one non Shimano reel that I have used for the better part of the last 20+ years is a Tica Cetus SB500 on my lightest UL combos. I also have an SB800 which h...

Re: What’s your Finesse spinning rod?

I have a quiver full of Major Craft rods from UL thru ML for my finesse spinning needs but I am partial to my Dobyns Champion 681 and 701 SF's

Fenwick River Runner

I own about 15 Major Craft rods....I really love them. I've moved a few out recently and need to pick up another spinning rod. I'd love to buy American if I can find something along the lines of what I need before I ante up for another Speedstyle or better rod. I'm looking for a 6-9 to 7-0 L to ml s...

Re: 16 Adlebaron BFS XG ????

I have one. I love the reel but it does feel like a toy to me because it is so small and light. If you can get that out of your head, it is a sweet little reel.

I don't know why you would want to change the spool, it is a BFS weight rated spool.

Re: Microcast spool vs real bfs reel

How does the ultralight casting style differ from heavier baits? Different techniques? Distance will be most effected by the lighter baits and casting gear. I tend to use my ul casting stuff for small cranks, spinners and moving baits. You are not going to be fishing jig n pigs or large plastic wor...

I'd agree 1/8oz is the upper fringe of BFS.

I've noticed a lot of reels coming used from Japan look like hammered sh*t.

Re: ultra light casting rod?

I'd say the 652ul is more suited for bass than trout. Much faster than a typical SUL trout rod.

Re: ultra light casting rod?

I have the 662 Teton UL. It is a rod that is decent for small moving baits like spinners, small open hooked swimbaits and crankbaits. I wouldn't expect it to be too good with plastics and jigs. It lacks a serious tip or much of a solid backbone for setting the hook.
