Re: Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2

Agreed, I wouldn't touch any of those cheap Chinese reels, I don't have the same confidence they would be as good as the rods. Zero confidence in fact.

Re: Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2

I bought a bunch of Corzzas from Plat when they had them for 50% off.........ah the good ole days. Still have a few of them. Lowrange, I believe your review of the Leadership was what prompted me towards looking into the Kuying rods. I think, if I am not mistaken you also got one of their casting re...

Re: Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2

I feel much the same about this forum (though love is a big word where I live  ). Tackle enthusiasts and many different opinions on little things is a big part of that to me. That is why I voice mine. I do agree with you on many aspects concerning that rod. Most importantly that you get a lo...

Re: Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2

Thank you for a very nice review and photos. I am no huge fan of the Kuying Topcaster or Kuying in general. The Topcaster blank is thick-ish and the EVA looks cheap, which are only minor things. Most of all, I dislike that they use Fuji-style labelling for guides and the reel holder, which are not ...

Re: Micro bass jig BFS rod

I've got multiple combos for that but my favorites would be my 6'8" L BFS Poison Glorious Long Distance with a 12 Aldebaran BFS XG and my 6'5" L BFS Expride with a Aldebaran Mg-7 or 16 Aldebaran BFS XG. If I were to buy a new combo today, it would be the new 6'8" L BFS Expride with a...

Re: Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2

Good write-up, Craig. After this, I might be online this afternoon buying a couple of them myself. I don't think it would take much for these rods to become anyone's favorite low cost options. In the event you accidentally had a catastrophic incident and broke one.....well, it is a lot different th...

Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2

Kuying TopCaster Rod review X2 Craig DeFronzo I am 100% guilty of being a tackle snob. I like what I like and usually that centers around high end Japanese equipment. I normally have no time for anything outside of that realm. I also almost never buy into the hype associated with new tackle releases...

Re: Considering adding a second and looking at BFS...

look into a 500 series reel, maybe a 1000 is too much for the size of the stream

I have a Cardiff 1000SHG, the ratio is 5 to 1.
You should be ok with that for small stream fishing.

Those sound like contradictory terms when considering rod building.

Re: Let's talk UL crankbaits ...

I find that treble hook removal from the Baby Pop X is a major pia and I am using the small Texas Tackle split ring tool so I can imagine how difficult the Bitsy Minnow would be. It seems like I bend out of shape all of the split rings. I have seen a JDM split ring tool that IIRC, looks like tweeze...

Re: Finding a "Light" BFS rod???

Still hunting right now. At one point, TFO made a nicer rod called the Tactical series, in a 6'3"Light casting version. I have the 6'9"ML for my SV105 but it could be a tad faster, still the 6'3"Light would have fit well enough and be bought locally (US). I am checking Major Craft an...

Re: Finding a "Light" BFS rod???

Hound, great post......I am a big fan of the Decoy stuff.
Replace those Slider heads with Decoy "Violence" heads.
Better hooks, better head shape, better quality.

Re: Trout casting rod.

Trout rods......not my preferred cup of tea as I like the BFS stuff but I do own one. I have a Kuying Teton trout baitcaster. It is a decent little cranking rod for tiny stuff. That said, I am throwing Lucky Craft RC .5's on my BFS Volkey's with ease and those baits are about 1/4oz. I miss those MC...
