Re: Large Mouth Bass

Bass fishing is growing in south africa. I have a friend in the military over there, the guy fished in the states for over 10 years, catchs the biggest bass of his lifetime on his first outing across the pond. For years there have been rumblings about bass weighing in the teens on treasure lake in c...

Re: Yo-zuri Hybrid for Revo STX

yo hybrid is a great topwater line. I use 12lb for throwing spooks, sammys, buzzbaits , etc. and it performs great. Awesome casting distance and damn near bullet proof. The line size should be decided by a number of factors such as: cover thickness, size of the fish, lure weight, water clarity, etc.

Re: Most abrasion resistant mono?

I use yozuri hybrid (8lb) for river small mouths and absolutely abuse it. I often intentionally cast in front of large boulders and use them as a fulcrum to work topwaters in one spot in the current. I've had a few 20+ fish days this year without retying. I know it's called "hybrid", but this lines ...

Re: baitcasting

I'd reccomend purchasing a reel with centrifugal and magnetic brakes to start out with. You can turn both brakes up really high and slowly back off as you get the hang of it. There are several high quality reels under $200 that have both. (abu revo stx, pflueger supreme, johnny morris bps)

Re: lipless cranks

guys thanks for the info! String jam/dragon- I'm with ya on the using shallow lipped cranks for this type application (the shallow bandits have VERY been good to me this year) I'm just looking to expand the old playbook a little. That shimano complex undulater looks like an option, I'll be on the lo...

Re: lipless cranks

yeah I was aware of the traps mentioned, but haven't used them. How's the action of the floating model compare to a conventional? What kind of profile does it have when it floats to the surface (if that makes sense)

Re: bass behavior question: attacking but not eating?

Another thing to keep in mind is that the fish may be trying to "tell" you that something about your presentation isn't quite right for them at that paticular moment. You didn't get into specifics, but it was mentioned that it wasn't the best conditions for that presentation. Bass generally want to ...

lipless cranks

With the exception of smaller rattle traps for crappie, I've never had much luck with them for bass. Most of the areas I fish are shallow, fish from the bank scenarios and the bigger heavier lipless cranks I wanna use bog down and get fouled with vegatation. I vaguely remember reading in bassin' awi...

Re: Wave Tiki Stick vs. Yamamoto Senko

tiki sticks are my confidence bait, sweet potatoe pie has been good to me. It seems to work in any water clarity. Senkos have worked great, but as mentioned above a soft plastic that sells for $ 2.99 vs 5-7, and also outlasts the other by 3 fish or so makes it an easy decision for me. The tiki snake...

Re: Nories bug

I'll let you in on a little secret of mine, next time your on the water and notice bass busting dragonflies, try tossing one weightless and work it on the surface. I had some incredible days (numbers wise) pitching these things into clumps of matted algae as bass were literally leaping outta the wat...

Re: best reel

You won't find much love for it on here (I'm guessing based on the review made a couple years back), but the johnny morris baitcaster is the sweetest sub $200 reel I've used. Very smooth, Bass pro has really improved it (the drag, finish) over the last few years, and it's now among the industry's be...

Re: ah knots, Help me please

what knot are you tying? I use the palomar exclusively with braid and have never had any issues. You have to watch soft plastic/livebait hooks as they can slide under the bend in the hook. Many people use a dab of super glue on the knot, I've honestly never had the need to do it but can see it servi...

Re: Pflueger Supreme spin reel.. a mini review

thanx for the review snidley, I've been awaiting info on these reels for a while. I use presidents for all my freshwater spinning applications, and love em'. I'm extremely happy w/ these reels (especially at that price point) and am curious to see how the supreme's compare other than weight. How bou...

Re: daiwa alphas 103

chuck, thanks for the advice as I'm new to the lighter baitcasting setups. I suppose I may want to rethink my rod/line. There really seems to be a niche in the market for this type of setup, but a very limited amount of options. I suppose the "mainstream" fisherman are so used to baitcasters that ca...

Re: shad imitator

cal, my bad I seemed to have missed that review. You gotta be tired of pointing this obvious stuff out by now! Mike- that huddleston does look very lifelike, not a bad price when put against similar entries. Is the -3 rate of fall per second I assume? I picked up one the two packs and plan on...
