Re: Fly rods

Unlike bass fishing and conventional fishing fly fishing strikes are typically not detected by having a sensitive rod. In dry fly fishing, you set the hook on sight of a fish inhaling your bug. When Strike indicating or nymph fishing you typically manage your line and on sight of the indicator movin...

Re: Fly rods

The rods that you named that you are interested in are not typical fly name brands. Are yo9u fishing on a budget?? If so how much are you looking to spend and what are you looking for?

Maybe we can offer some advice?

Re: Lifetime Warranty on Reels?

I have sent back reels to Ross and Bauer that have malfunctioned and they were fixed and sent back to me for free.

Companies are usually really good about fixing products that break for free under normal wear and tear.

Re: NEW TO FLY FISHING-NEED HELP

I would be prepared to spend more than 50 bucks on your set up. Have you ever spent 50 dollars on a spinning/rod and reel combo??

For flies you will probably have luck with glo bugs, caddis pheasant tail or wooly buggers.

Good luck,

Re: Tapered Leaders

You can tie a new tippet on the end and expect it to hold up undder high stress if you can tie a good not. I would recomend a triple surgeon. however, keep in mind when you start tying new tipets on it is best to step down gradually. For instance, don't go from 15lb. to 8lb. you have to step down gr...

More reason why you shouldn't fish without a fly rod.

Re: More Problems

There are a few ways to keep this from happening. One is you might want to try lowering your rod tip a little more when punching it forward. When I say lower the rod tip, I mean just barely, because a couple of inches will make all the difference in the world. Lowering it too far could mean that the...

Depends on what you are targeting and how deep you are fishing. Have you called ahead or tried to find out what is available??

Re: Redington sold again!

:?: Tough to say unless you are an insider. I see Reddington as a fishing company that is somewhat struggling to identify thier own niche. They make fishing boots, but not the best. They make fly rods, but not the best or cheapest. In the fishing industry the companies that are successful strongly e...

Re: Fly Fishing the Surf

I am not very knowledgeable about surf fishing, but I have seen guys fishing the jettis and surf areas in California. More so than regular fishing is tends to really be hit or miss!

Re: Who makes the best fly rods?

I too have a similar custom rod that is a dull grey Scott Alpha Series blank. Custom wraps, titanium eyes, and stipes that mark 16' 20' and 24" so I can measure the length of my fish without a tape. I am very impressed with the versatility of the rod, and it too was a fraction of the cost of many na...

Re: Who makes the best fly rods?

Sounds like you are really happy with your set up. I am also a very big fan of Bauer Reels and their cork drag system. I haven't had the opportunity to fish with St. Croix rods yet, but you bring up an interesting point of being able to spen the extra $$ in other places with minimal to know loss in ...
