Re: OG Zillion Variations

The PEs (7.9 version) have tweaked braking and cast/pitch much, much better than the other variants, IMHO. The stock spool is small, which is fine with a braid/FC leader, or if you're just fishing a short line, tight to cover (ie. 20 FC, short pitches), you should be OK. If you're casting, swapping ...

Re: Speciality Tackle -- Looking for Info

You might have some luck using "Zenith baits" or something similar to find some info. However, I'd hide 'em if they're Junior D's!

Good luck!

Re: Favorite Discontinued Reel?

TD Sol Why Daiwa, Why ??? For this reason alone I will be buying a Alphas SV. Like most, I would agree with the TD-Z platform, Zillions (SOOO PO'd I got the PE versions late in the game) and I too will probably end up getting the Alphas SV. Definite nods to the Curado 100B and Scorpion 1000 as well.

Re: Buzzbait Mods

Doh! I meant to add my tweaks on that as well! Use some pliers to make sure that the rivet does not rotate on the shaft! Another way to give the rivet (and blade bottom) is to use pliers to score those. Just smoosh 'em so they get some ridges. You can eyeball the bottom of the blade and the rivet to...

Re: Buzzbait Mods

A few that I typically do are: • Cup the blades a bit deeper so it can be fished slower (catches more water). Vice versa if you want to burn it. • Tie my own skirt and use copper wire to wrap it. • A tiny bit of heat shrink, slid over the "R" bend, in case I'm being lazy and use a snap to attach the...

Re: Shad Raps

Have any of you ever use the suspend dots or strips to add a little casting distance? I'm pretty sure I did a long time ago ... But, going to the larger baits and upsizing the hooks seems to work well. However, there's nothing wrong with using the good ol' suspend dots/strips! You can always wrap l...

Re: Shad Raps

Much obliged, smalljaw! I'll be sure to pass that on to my buddy as well! And go for throwing the #8! The #5 is a awesome! But I like being able bang around a little deeper as well. We were actually fishing the tapering side of an island (not really a point/channel situation). I threw the Risto Rap ...

Re: Shad Raps

I had to chime in on this thread as well! I tend to throw the #7, #8 and #9. In lieu of adding the lead wraps, I upsize the hooks with ST-36s. It kills a bit of the shimmy a bit, but I stop throwing them once the water warms (usually) to 50 degs. My buddy and I were pre-fishing Buggs Island (Kerr Re...

Alphas 105H Spool Swap

Hey guys, I need to swap out the stock 105H spool with the stock 103 spool. I realize the 105H has standard Magforce braking system and am not sure if that will muck casting/performance. What I've done for a quick test is to pull the side plate and spool from a Type F to drop in the 105H, which fit ...

Re: Bassmaster classic Winning baits

Some of the baits I noticed being used: • Ike: Day 1 - Vision 110, Days 1 & 2 - Slender Pointer, Day 3 - Pointer 100 DD (agree with goldrod) • Pace: Old Hot Clown Rogue (agree with other posters, plus you can hear those old Rogue rattles) • KVD: His new jerkbait These are guesses at best.
