Re: Steez Racing Design 701MH / HXB-ST

I just returned from Japan and spent some time at the Yokohama Fishing Fest. The entire line of Steez Racing Design rods were on display and I spent some time with them, and the designers. What an incredible series of rods to say the least. I'm fortunate to own one, but after this trip, I'll own a c...

Re: Best action for a jig rod

In my experience, what a company describes an action as fast might be extra fast to another company. I've found that there is no true standard of measure shared by all companies when they designate the actions of their rods. Generally speaking however, I prefer a fast action rod for almost all botto...

Re: daiwa BLX Rods

Probably due to the glass/graphite mix correct? I've heard good things about that stick for jerkbaits but have not touched any of the rods in that series. Ive fished the ronin (both series), imx pro 812s and a few others and liked them but wanted to try something different. I am worried about the w...

Re: daiwa BLX Rods

Thank you BF. Seems like a cool stick. I'm leaning towards a Valkyrie 6'-11 now but may still go after one. Appreciate the response. I haven't fished that particular Valkyrie, but it is noticeably heavier in hand and not as crisp/electric feeling. Don't get me wrong, the Valkyrie series are fantast...

Re: Steez CT TWS and Antares 70

I thought the same about the Steez CT. Effortlessly casts a variety of lures. Surprisingly fast yet controllable spool. Also casts really flat. Yes indeed, it's a special reel. I've added a couple more Steez CT since I first had the opportunity to fish one. I was shocked at the finesse capabilities...

Re: Steez CT TWS and Antares 70

I don't have the Antares 70, but I do have a few Steez CT and that reel is amazing. It is ultra compact, ultra light weight, precision refined, and the performance is extremely impressive. I've fished a wide range of applications with Steez CT on numerous rods and aside from heavy line with long cas...

Re: Bone Stock Reels

I always fish new/current production reels bone stock for quite a while before doing any tinkering. I like to have first hand knowledge of how it is going to perform in stock form for when questions arise. After some time, or having multiples of the same model, I'll begin to experiment with non-stoc...

Hey, does anyone know if the ML limber spinning version can handle jerkbaits? Its rated for up to 5/8 oz so I would think yes but haven't seen any in person yet.
Its a great jerk bait rod for small to mid-sized baits.

Re: —Daiwa Catalina TW 4.9:1–

50lb Power Pro has a diameter of closer to PE4 compared to good Japanese braids. For example Daiwa Tournament Evo is rated at PE4, is claimed to be 0.30mm and break around 50lb. Japanese PE 2 will be much thinner in diameter, usually close to a good quality Japanese 8lb mono. Correct. I haven't mea...

Re: daiwa BLX Rods

I've fished a few of them, handled all of them. I'm using the 74MHRB and the 73ML regularly and am very happy with the performance, fit and finish, weight, balance, and overall feel. Feel free to shoot me a PM anytime if I can assist.

Re: Switching Combos

I think its all part of the fun. Like a lot of you guys, I have quite a few nice rods and reels. I really enjoy switching them out, changing up line, trying to find those ideal pairings. Sometimes that does involve changing out handles, knobs, and spools too

Re: Righty Spinning AND Lefty Casting?

I switched to left hand casting reels many years ago, and grew up using left for spinning. I have always felt more comfortable and been more accurate pitching with my right and I disliked the added movement of switching the rod to my left hand to present and retrieve. It was a hard learning curve an...

Re: Steez Bottom Contact & Shimano Poison Adrena

Gary, I have a IS79 ZPI PG spool on one and the Steez SHA with the SV105 on the other. Im going to try some skips next week with it. Seem like the reels that are lower to the reel seat feel the best. I initially wanted to put and IP79 on it but it just wasn't as comfortable as the lower steez profi...

Re: One ten special

How well does the 110 Special handle the Pointer 78’s? They are at the bottom end of the rod’s rating. Paired with the Steez SV TW and 8# FC, I think it does a pretty good job with the Pointer 78. It's a little on the stout side, but still fishes them effectively. Would you choose it over the X4 On...
