Humminbird customer service
I hope this post is in the right area... didn't seem to fit anywhere else. I am having trouble with getting a response from Humminbird Electronics about my new 535PT. Has anyone had any background with their response time? I'm going on my 3rd week without any answer to my initial e-mail inquiry. It'...

Re: New to fly fishing
Are you talking about "Joan" being a hottie? LOL wrong chat site for that LOLOL The rodtip with the yarn on it... I made my own many years ago, but really never used it. After my 29 odd years, fishing only flies, the action never leaves your muscles. It is fun to teach you opposite hand to cast just...

Re: New to fly fishing
Personally, when teaching a person to cast, I begin with a medium action rod of say 33 million modulus in 4wt. After they get that conquered and before they get too sloppy, I have them switch to a full flex 2wt. The lighter weight stays aloft longer, and they now have time to look back (if they aren...

Re: Winston Boron IIX
I thought they felt faster than an SLT... Very tight and reactive tip. Kinda like the steering of a Ferrari next to a Mercedes sedan. Both are very nice, but the IIX was made for extreme performance like the Ferrari.

Re: New to fly fishing
If you really want to learn, get the best stick you can afford (i.e. st.croix, sage, temple fork, scott, fenwick). Packages are put together purely for your money and the Chinese profit margins. They aren't worth stringing your tomatoes to. To save a few $$ you can try building your own. This will s...

Re: new to baitcasting reels
WOW! Thanks Folks! Those are some great tips. I had the brake theory backwards. I was under the impression that the magnetic controlled the end of the cast, because that was what I used to trim out the little nests that occurred. BTW, the thumb came in after only a few hours of practice. It is now p...

Re: new to baitcasting reels
Thanks Charlie, I'm running about half way into my magnetic (5 out of 10). I already have loosened the cast control knob until it came off, I remembered all that stuff from long ago when I took a fishing class in college (mandatory PE... I ended up teaching the flyfishing portion). I guess it comes ...

new to baitcasting reels
Hey Y'All, I Have taken baitcasting up this season. Don't ask why after all these years... My question is simple: How do you know if a reel is able to handle a lure as small as what you want it to throw? I noticed that on my "inexpensive" (compared to some of you guys LOL) Diawa Capricorn from "Dick...

Re: Catch and Release fisherman from Michigan only.
Is it OK if we attended college in Michigan? or are you strict on the Michigan residency requirement? Is there a "catch and release" specification related to crawdads, or are they open for the boiling pot? Just funnin with ya! Although I did attend the U of Detroit The Michiganers will appreciate th...

Re: Pike fly rod
Having tested most of these rods for the local fly shops, I can say that I prefer the Fenwick. I have a softy spot for these rods as Fenwick was the first rod I ever built. Honestly though, the Temple Fork and the St. Croix would be far better rods if they added at least one more line guide. I think...

Any ohio folk besides me?
Hey all, I've seen Het's big fish posted on here. I know he's form Ohio. I just signed up and love the info. I am Michael Majcher, a former architect fresh from the rockies to the big city (hate it). I am somewhat disabled, but still manage to get out and around as much as I still can. I will fish o...

Will fish anywhere with any gear for any fish... I'm not picky, just love to get out. Being new to the area I've spent a lo...

Re: Repairing and rejoining fly lines..
At that point, I would just buy a new line. These lines now-a-days are engineered to work in a harmony that is completely lost by splicing and fooling around. I have had a similar experience in the field. I only lost the front end just ahead of the head. I tied a new leader directly to the line end ...

what happened to RIO?
Did anyone notice that the Rio Fluoroflex Plus has a lower tensile strength than it used to? Did they do this for IGFA reasons?
