Re: Favorite BFS rig...let's name it

Thanks, I checked the video out, my rigging was ok, might have been a poor quality cheb with weak wire. Still, if you can slide the weight off relatively easily then a bass is going to do it at some point with a head shake....

Re: Favorite BFS rig...let's name it

First time I hooked a bass on a Cheb rig, it jumped, shook its head and the cheb weight shot up the line, leaving me attached via an unsupported wire loop. Luckily it was a dink so no harm done. How do you prevent this happening? Thanks!

Re: mid strolling and small hardbait spinning rod

Not sure what weight range you have in mind for small hardbaits but I've been very happy with an Evergreen Serpenti Spin Serpent. It's rated to 3/16 but I routinely use 1/4 or slightly more on it. Neds, SPs, finesse jigs and sweeping shad baits like OSP Dunk 48 etc, handles everything brilliantly. R...

Re: '21 Glorious

tip diameter of this 610L/MH is 1.7mm, vs. 0.8mm for the 610L-S, which is a true solid tip. I've done a bit of trick worm fishing and used many solid tip rods, including the Evergreen Spin Serpent which is an incredible stick, I've got total confidence in the solid tip, it isn't stupid thin and wor...

I've got an Evergreen Serpenti Spin Serpent that I would use for that - amazing stick, basically solid tip (not a noodle) on a BFS blank. Check it out.

Re: Evergreen Cougar Elite 7 RS

I can provide the balance point comparison when I’ve been out fishing with the friend I sold the Super Cougar to. Could take a while though, it’s pretty cold in Germany. I can say though, the balance point of the PB is closer to the reel. I tend to disagree with your opinion - at least where weight...

Re: Evergreen Cougar Elite 7 RS

So many intriguing rod drops by EG lately it’s hard to keep up. I’m still dreaming of rapid gunners and black roses, but have plenty of rods that fill those positions. This one however would actually fill a need. I have a prescription for something versatile, medium, and that should excel with treb...

Re: Evergreen Cougar Elite 7 RS

In my opinion (full disclosure - I love Evergreen and have never handled a PB although have some experience with GL high end rods), rod weight is far less important than rod balance. A lighter, top heavy rod is less pleasant to use than a heavier one that is properly balanced. With steadily lighter ...

Re: Finezza Proto vs Super Finezza

Your friend is 100% correct. Graphiteleader builds a 'standard' range of very good rods. Evergreen uses their big pro staff to create niche rods to meet very particular applications - if you buy right, you get a rod perfect for your requirements, if you get it wrong then ouch!! Evergreen use the tec...

Re: Finezza Proto vs Super Finezza

I have a bit of experience with GL rods, mostly Prototype variants. I don't think the 7'11" will solve your problem. The Ryukis mentioned have high inertia, much higher than a metal jig, so an ML with a very slender hollow tip (1.2mm) may not be able to deal with the extra inertia. Mainstream trout ...

Re: Evergreen Orion

I took a punt on the Black Rose, as a long time Evergreen enthusiast I've come to trust their design process and model descriptions. If, as often happens, the Black Rose gets a great review from the Dark JDM Lords, it will become impossible to get for awhile. Although a long time bass angler, I'll b...

Re: JDM line recommendation for UL trout fishing

Thanks for the update! I've used FC down to 3lb on a 6'1" Corto and agree that lighter than 2g heads is tricky unless you are fishing shallow and in perfect conditions. Don't post much at the moment because I'm mostly fishing rocky sea shore for wrasse, which are filthy fighters. I recently got dust...

Re: JDM line recommendation for UL trout fishing

Thanks a lot guys. The gosen braid is in stock at digitaka, so will probably go for that for now. I will see if I go for soft FC or not. Spools with leader are so small. I like to re-tie pretty often. Usually use a rod length worth of leader. I will see what I can find. .16mm(4lb) is apparantly #1 ...
