Re: Longer, high end, versatile rod suggestions?
Likewise, I have both the X7 EM and Nautilus, EM gets my vote. It makes it out on all my trips while the Nautilus maybe 1 out of every 5 trips. And the Western Flip, a little too light based on the OP’s description of intended use.

Re: Longer, high end, versatile rod suggestions?
Agree, that would be my recommendation as well!an X7 extreme mission would basically be perfect but you gotta dig to find someone who will give one up. Most people who own x7 lineup rods take em to the grave for good reason they’re phenomenal.

I have a couple high end Tenryu rods that I really like, though I haven’t truly caught anything BFS worthy with either.

Take a look at the Megabass X7 Western Flip, if you know anyone that will let you try theirs. It may suit your needs.

Re: ML bottom contact rod recommedation
If you can find a used one the Sedition Cristobal is a top notch mag Ml rod with incredible feel, balance, cosmetics and length. It casts incredibly well baits in that 1/4 to 3/8 oz range such as 1/4 jig with a trailer. https://i.postimg.cc/ZqDHjJHx/0-C81-D793-43-E2-4150-933-E-AA04533-DF375.jpg htt...

Actually, they’re an additional 30% off right now. I would call to see what they have in stock, otherwise, you could be waiting for months if you have to order one.

Re: Surf fishing (spinning) rods for jerkbait halibut in Socal area?
I’ve been really happy with my Edge BWS StR 905-2. They often have specials going to have them closer to your target price. I have a Van Staal VR50B on it and it’s a great combo for SoCal surf fishing. I also have the BWS StR 964-2 that I switch out for throwing sand crabs or crack for Perch, Corbin...

I was able to get a replacement from the guys at the Tackle Trap. They had spares that were taken off damaged rods. Worth a shot.

Re: 21 Exsence A 4000 ($100 off) vs Vanquish
Here’s my take on your question, if the latest most updated model means much to you, then the obvious answer is the new Vanquish. While I’ve not handled the Vanquish, I do own both the 3K and 4K Exsence reels. They are as smooth as any other top tier Shimano spinning reel I’ve handled and I’ve had s...

Re: Premium Mountain Stream Rods-The Hunt
Hey Rick, I have a couple of Tenryu rods, one is a 6’1” spinning the other 5’2” casting. Haven’t tried either in any streams yet but fished one of our local lakes for stockers. Both were great! I’m a flyfisherman at heart, hence the board name Winstondry, this is my first step to fishing for trout w...
