Re: Help! NRX 842S SJR and NRX 852S JWR

Older thread, but I was looking at an 842S in the shop today - but it was an MR, not a JWR. I couldn't find it in the catalog they had so not sure if it's an older model? Have really been looking at 852s/872s JWR and leaning towards the 872 for the ever so slightly softer tip. To be used for 4"...

Re: Original Daiwa Fuego Spool weight

Thanks, that is what I was thinking as well - not enough difference to warrant replacing the OG Zillion spool I have in there now. I do see some HLC spools on the Japan auction sites, but they are close to $100. I'll keep looking for the 100M/ML Gigas I guess.

Original Daiwa Fuego Spool weight

Anyone know the weight of the original Daiwa Fuego spool? Been searching for a 100M/100ML spool for some time now with not much success. I see TackleTrap still has Feugo spools available, but not sure how much different it would be than the OG Zillion spool I'm using now. Any other 36mm spools I sho...

Re: In need of JDM Daiwa Steez 103HL schematic

For my OG Steez's, I really only upgrade the drag, and swap over to ZPI Office bearings - although the OEM Steez bearings are actually pretty decent imo. I only have 100's but if I had the 103 I would swap out to a 90mm handle from a 100 version as well - all available from Tackle Trap. I've never r...

Good numbers, thanks. Too bad the gearset is no more :(.

Re: building the 5.1:1 'crankin'steez'

Very nice! How about the STEEZ103HLA lefty? I only see td-z 103p, But no left hand reel to snag the gear set from. hmmm. i really do not have a clue. to my knowledge, there was not a 103p released here or in Japan. i do not know of any other lefty reels that would work either.... The 103ML gear set...

Re: Metanium worth the extra cost?

Thanks all, I picked up one more OG Steez actually so going to roll with them for a bit - have so many Daiwa's and so many parts, adding a Shimano would be the proverbial "bad apple" in the batch lol.

Re: OG Steez - Tackle Trap 7.1 gearset

So I picked up a 7.1 OG Steez, rated 29.5 IPT and measures out about 2" shy of advertised, which is similar to the 6.3 version as well. Actually I find most reels don't meet the advertised number - not sure if there is any kind of industry standard but it's just something I've come to accept. N...

Re: frog reel

Zillion Type R is often recommended, and what I am using. But they are getting hard to find, and expensive to boot. Reality is, any solid frame high speed reel would work, and you don't need to break the bank. The Tatula 8x variants, or even the Zillion TW 9x would fit the bill coming from the Daiwa...

Re: Should I get 872s or 902s NRX

I was just looking over the 852s/872s series - pretty universally it seems like the 852s is the most often recommended go to all around NRX finesse bass spinning rod, but I don't know how many of those recommendations predate the availability/use of the 872s. The company line appears to be the 852s ...

Re: Comparing Original Steez to Metanium MGL, etc

thanks, yeah I've got 3 OG Steez - two are 6.3's, 1 is 7.1. I could drop a gear upgrade in the two 6.3's for $100 and be done - one each for the 893, 894, and 873 I've got coming. Plus I've got two Alphas SV's as well so I have a few options for 6oz reels. For all I know the J Dreams/SV105's may ba...

Re: Comparing Original Steez to Metanium MGL, etc

I stopped by a local shop and was able to look at a Metanium MGL, it was the DC version but I assume the physical size/format is the same? It palmed well, that I could tell and felt buttery :). The AR was solid as well. They didn't have any NRX's but I put in on a IMX Pro to get a feel for it. It wa...

Re: Comparing Original Steez to Metanium MGL, etc

Actually the play in the AR is one reason I've never really warmed up to Shimano - I know it's a non-issue, but the solid AR of Daiwa feels so much better imo. Those white chronarch's had that loose AR also. Not sure if the Met is the same or not. Most of the reviews I've been reading seem to indica...
