Re: Daiwa combo for surfcasting?
It's a nice combo for the price. I talked to someone who had a similar set up I believe its a 12' combo with the emblem pro 4500. It casts really well, flexes on the upper 1/3 of its body which works well with our type of fishing. It will catch you fish if you have the skills.

Re: To levelwind or not to levelwind
I would not go with the levelwind, once you learn how to wind it on your reel(takes a few mins to learn) it's like second nature. Plus it's one less part you might have to replace later down the road, also birdsnest are a pain in gluts to take out.

Yes I was referring to the RCN61. I like using sufix tri plus. Try the chartreuse it's a great high vis line for night fishing.

Re: The Abu-Garcia Record? I need a bit of help
I would fill it with a 14# quality line you get better distance and more line to tug in the fish. Think about it, a typtical cast you make of 150 yards, that will only leave you with 50 yards left to fight and that might not be enough. Trust me 14# is more than enough to catch most fishes in the sea.

Re: Surf Casting Reel ? :)
I forgot your last question. The abu 7001 is a lefty but probably too big for your taste. Are you left handed? I'm left handed but prefer using right hand reels.

Re: Surf Casting Reel ? :)
Have you ever tried using a reel without a levelwind? Maybe you should try it. I have never used a reel with a levelwind before. I think its obsolete, and just one more part to care for. I've heard that clearing a birdsnest is much tougher for levelwind reels. Try a non-levelwind reel for a day or t...

Re: Surf Casting Reel ? :)
I like the Abu 6500 C3CT blue yonder and the Penn 525 T Mag. You really can't get anything better those 2 reels when it comes to surf casting. It definately falls into your price range, though the 6500 is about 10-15 more than what your willing to spend.

Re: Stripers for Beginners
Hey studio, striper fishing is one of my favorite. They fight and tug hard. I would stick with 14-17 lb line that works well unless the place your fishing has lots of debri then I would probably get some suffix tri. My all time favorite jig is a white bucktail with a jig. You can also try some yo-zu...

Re: Uh-oh..
Thanks for the photo fishingfanboy Well i'm glad he's ok. Nobody wants to be in that situation. I think i'll keep my fishing to shore, plus I love barbecuing on land waiting for my reel to start screeming.
Re: Uh-oh..
That is a bit freaky, i'm glad you guys are ok.
