Re: Broken Rods who breaks more UPS or USPS
I recently received a PVC tube with 3 rod blanks through USPS that had been crushed. All 3 blanks were also crushed. I've also had some rods shipped in a cardboard tube that were damaged to some extent -- again with USPS. For rod or blank shippers I believe the message, "DO NOT BEND OR CONVEY" is us...

Re: North Fork Composites
Just a guess here -- but perhaps part of the reason for a sale was to ship inventory so NFC would not need to move it to their new facility. Shipping product means money has been received -- while moving product from one facility to another only costs the company money. I know when our local grocery...

Re: North Fork Composites
I've experienced the same slow shipping time. I received an order confirming e-mail on April 4 -- but so far have not seen the blanks I ordered. I attempted to e-mail a couple times with no answer -- next tried to call about 4 times with no answer -- finally called and talked to an individual. NFC s...

Re: North Fork Composites
Thanks for the post. I thought I was done purchasing blanks for the off season -- but after seeing this sale I ordered a a few more. I still need to order some parts to finish them -- but it would be wonderful if I could get them all put together before I start open-water fishing. At this point we s...

Re: Best rod in $150-$200 range?
As others have mentioned there are many rods in this price range I have not tried -- however -- one I have been extra impressed with is the Bass Pro Shops Johnny Morris signature series. I've been using a 7' 2" medium-heavy spinning rod. Well balanced, impressively sensitive, lightweight with good b...

Re: Fuji Small Diameter KR Concept Guides
I've built A lot of spinning rods since I wrote this post -- and 5 mm running guides are now what I use most of the time. They work very well in most situations. Just finished a bait casting rod, as well as two spinning rods in the past 4 days. All have 5mm running guides. For 30 lb. braid on the sp...

Re: Bait casting rod guide size that enhances performance without disadvantages
Thanks for more replies -- I am building three rods at this point. Two with #5 runners and now with 4.5 runners. I'm also still considering purchasing a factory rod. Wish I had a chance to cast one of the rods before making / purchasing more -- but lots of snow on the ground and was very cold today....

Re: outdated legendary tackle
Mitchell 300 spinning reel -- one of the first spinning reels that made it to the USA. My Grandfather purchased one of the early ones available, long before I was born, and they were still a top selling spinning reel when I was in high school. They were a loss leader advertised by lots of different ...

Re: preferred run guide sizes for medium casting rods
Thanks again for each of the thoughts you shared. I've ordered 3 blanks that I might build as bait cast rods -- all are nice sensitive blanks (as Boris suggested). I am planning to build with my 4.5 Trozite guides for runners on one rod and 5's for the runners on the other 2 rods. Frosty, thanks for...

Re: preferred run guide sizes for medium casting rods
Thanks for the replies. Frosty -- those sizes you mentioned are ones I'd already tried on heavier bait casting rods with good success -- although my size 5 guides I would not call fly guides. I'm leaning in that ball park -- but did not want to influence what people said with my own limited experien...

Re: Bait casting rod guide size that enhances performance without disadvantages
Issues with small guide would be some of the ones you identified -- grass or other debris -- possible icing during cold mornings, seeing the small guides well enough to string my rods. Ice build up is not something I am planning around though -- if weather is that cold I have other rods with larger ...

Bait casting rod guide size that enhances performance without disadvantages
I'm contemplating both purchasing a new bait casting rod and building a new bait casting rod. Lure weight would likely run down to or slightly less than 1/4 up to 3/4 ounce for both rods. After a discussion on line size I am planning to try 40 lb. braid (partly to avoid backlashes). Without starting...

preferred run guide sizes for medium casting rods
It's been quite a while since I built a lighter weight casting rod, and I am considering going with smaller sized guides to less the weight of the build and make the rod tip more sensitive, however, I do not want to go so small that I start having performance issues with the guides --- or even that ...

Re: Braid that casts well without digging in
Thanks for all they replies. I already have some 30 lb. suffix 832 that I have been using on spinning rods -- so hearing from at least one person about that one I may try it first. I also was considering some heavier power pro maxcuatro.

Braid that casts well without digging in
Is there a specific type of super braid that casts well on a bait casting reel without digging in and causing backlashes? I often have this problem after battling a hard fighting fish or after pulling against a snagged lure. I imagine this may be partially size of line related as well. I'm looking f...
